This dark-ruby wine offers a bouquet of ripe cherry and baking spices. Notes of clove and nutmeg transition to the palate alongside flavors of blackberry, cassis, chocolate-covered espresso bean, eucalyptus and violet...

Decanter, January 2023

You might think this stellar wine deserves something more serious than mushrooms on toast but I sometimes think with a bottle as good as this, simple is best. A beautifully balanced blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta...

The blackberry, flower and dark chocolate aromas are very impressive. It's medium- to full-bodied with fine and linear tannins that run the length of the wine. Racy and polished. Silky and enticing texture. All here. Very...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, July 2022

The most classical of their wines, the 2015 Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano, mostly from Rioja Alta (Sajazarra, Cellorigo and Fonzaleche), but the Garnacha is from...

jebdunnuck.com, June 2022

The 2015 Prado Enea Gran Reserva comes from a hotter, riper vintage, but it shares similar gamey, exotic aromatics of red and black fruits, sappy herbs, flowers, leather, iron, and background cedary oak. Rich, medium to...

Touching the sensors of pleasure and pain, this wine’s fruit ripened to a red-peach-at-the-pit intensity, while its tannins seem to strangle all that succulence under their delicate, yet persistent grip. Those tannins...

Muga’s Prado Enea Gran Reserva is made from a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano. The grapes used for making this wine, along with those for Torre Muga, are always the last ones to be brought into the winery. This late picking ensures ideal ripening. The grapes are fermented naturally in 10,000-kilo oak vats, without temperature control or added yeasts. The maceration time can vary and may go on for up to twenty days. The wine is aged in 16,000-litre capacity oak vats for twelve months, then a minimum of 36 months in oak casks and another minimum 36 months in the bottle. After cask-aging, the wine is gently fined using fresh egg whites.

The 2015 Muga Rioja Gran Reserva Prado Enea is a proprietary blend from the Rioja region of Spain. This red wine, produced by Muga, boasts a classic profile and a 14.5% alcohol content. It is sealed with a cork and is known for its complexity and balance. This wine has garnered high praise from several esteemed reviewers.

James Suckling awarded it a score of 97, describing its "blackberry, flower and dark chocolate aromas" as "very impressive." He noted its medium to full body, fine and linear tannins, and silky texture. Suckling also mentioned its drinkability now while suggesting that it will improve with age, calling it "racy and polished" (jamessuckling.com, 9/13/2023).

Jeb Dunnuck also gave it high marks with a score of 96. He highlighted the wine's exotic aromatics, including "red and black fruits, sappy herbs, flowers, leather, iron, and background cedary oak." Dunnuck praised its purity, balance, and finish, summarizing it as a "classic expression" that can be enjoyed over the next two decades or more (jebdunnuck.com, 6/13/2022).

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate also awarded it a score of 97, calling it "the most classical of their wines." The wine is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano, mostly from Rioja Alta. The élevage extends to 36 months in barrels with only 10% new oak. The reviewer emphasized its depth, complexity, and classical profile with "incipient tertiary notes," comparing it to vintages like 2001 and 2010 (Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 7/14/2022).

Wine Spectator gave it a score of 94, describing it as "well-tailored in an understated way" with a "plushly creamy" palate. The wine features flavors of "black cherry and black plum reduction, sandalwood, cedar, green olive, espresso crema and minerally smoke and iron." The reviewer recommended drinking it now through 2030 (Wine Spectator, 8/10/2022).

Finally, Wine & Spirits rated it at 96, noting its "red-peach-at-the-pit intensity" and tannins that bring out floral and earthy sides. They highlighted the wine's aging process, which includes a year in large American oak vats, three years in mostly French oak barrels, and an additional three years in the bottle (Wine & Spirits, 2/1/2023).

Overall, the 2015 Muga Rioja Gran Reserva Prado Enea is lauded for its complexity, balance, and aging potential, making it a standout vintage from Muga.
