Riserva Madonna del Piano, hails from one of the first and best single-vineyard sites in Montalcino, with production dating back to 1977. Made only in the best vintages and from the oldest vines on the property, in 1994 Valdicava was granted the right to list the Madonna del Piano vineyard designation on the label. The 19.5 hectare single vineyard is divided into four parts: old vines, Pievecchina, Pratea and Sferracavallo. Owner Vincenzo Abbruzzese harvests the vines from each part of the vineyard at different times and makes the wines separately before blending them together. The wine is then aged about two years in large old casks and another two years in bottle.

The 2015 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano is a standout red wine from Tuscany, Italy, specifically from the Brunello di Montalcino sub-region. Made from Sangiovese Grosso, this wine boasts an alcohol content of 14.0%.

James Suckling awarded this wine a perfect score of 100, describing it as having "spectacular aromas of crushed fruit, plums, sous bois, porcini and black truffles." He noted its decadence balanced by freshness, and praised its full-bodied, dense, and linear palate, highlighting its "incredible depth and consistency." Suckling also mentioned its "savory and juicy finish" with vivid acidity and fruit, calling it the "greatest ever" and recommending it for consumption after 2025 (jamessuckling.com, 1/26/2021).

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, through reviewer Monica Larner, gave this wine a score of 96. Larner appreciated the balance between power and elegance, noting the presence of dried cherry, cassis, cranberry, and nuances of grilled herb, cola, and blue flower. She also highlighted the wine's balsam intensity with notes of root beer and rosemary oil. Larner advised additional cellar aging due to a "point of youthful tannic astringency" (Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 12/1/2020).

Vinous reviewer Eric Guido awarded the wine 95+ points, highlighting its "mentholated freshness" and a "seductive display of crushed black cherries, cinnamon, sage and sweet white smoke." Guido described the wine as silky yet lifted, with concentrated fruit and grippy tannins. He noted its need for many years of cellaring to fully reveal its charms (Vinous, 11/1/2020).

Wine Spectator's Bruce Sanderson gave this wine 97 points, remarking on its "cherry, berry and wild herb flavors" and describing it as "pure and vibrant." Sanderson praised its refined tannins and bright acidity, mentioning a "mineral-tinged finish" that is fresh and long. He suggested the wine would be best enjoyed from 2024 through 2049 (Wine Spectator, 6/30/2021).

Overall, the 2015 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano is highly acclaimed, with reviewers agreeing on its complexity, balance, and potential for aging.
