A domaine bottling for Faiveley, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes bursts from the glass with a rich and wild bouquet of grilled meats, earthy cassis, red cherries, spices and rose petals. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and muscular, with a succulent core of fruit, fine but youthfully chewy tannins and a long, enticingly carnal finish. While the new style chez Faiveley is beautifully polished, I found this cuvée strangely reminiscent of the wines of the erstwhile Domaine Maume—certainly an unexpected analogy. - WK
