Tasted from bottle, the 2016 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing very well indeed, unfurling in the glass with a complex bouquet of cherries, dark chocolate, forest floor, raw cocoa and wild plums. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and vibrant, with a deep core of succulent fruit, fine-boned and chalky structuring tannins and a long, energetic finish.-WK

(95+ points) The 2016 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru has a much more expressive bouquet than the Mazis-Chambertin at the moment with just a hint of dried blood that infuses the mélange of black and blue fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with quite saturated tannin, voluminous and multi-layered with hints of burnt toast and game infusing the fruit. This is a very complex Griottes-Chambertin that will require several years in bottle like the Mazis. Tasted at the Domaine. -- Neal Martin

Copious wood toast fights with the slighter redder fruit profile that is laced with spice and floral scents along with hints of earth and humus. The medium-bodied flavors are also admirably concentrated and refined if a bit less powerful while delivering good length on the precise and reasonably well=balanced finish though the wood does resurface. This mocha-inflected effort is delicious but it doesn't have quite the same energy as the Mazis and the Charmes. In sum, this is very good but doesn't appear to be at its usual outstanding level.
