The 2016 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing very well, revealing aromas of earthy wild berries that mingle with notions of black truffle, grilled meats and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with a sapid core of fruit that largely cloaks its chalky tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish.-WK

More moderate wood toast is still far from subtle even if it does not overshadow the aromas of cassis, black cherry, spice, earth and plenty of sauvage character. The rich, concentrated and overtly powerful broad-shouldered flavors brim with sappy dry extract that also buffers the complex and impressively persistent finish where the only nit is a trace of warmth. This is very firm and will need extended cellaring; indeed 15 to 20 years is likely to be necessary if you wish to see this at its peak.
