The fragrant, crushed berry and violet character leaps out of the glass at you. But this has serious muscularity, a generous tannin structure with great polish and refinement and a finish that pumps out the flavors. Enormous concentration and length for this appellation. Drink or hold.

The special cuvée that sees an extended élevage and is 100% Merlot, the 2016 Château La Fleur de Boüard Plus is slightly deeper colored and has more power and depth, with beautiful blackberry and kirsch notes intermixed with ample smoked herbs, hints of chocolate and white flowers. This medium to full-bodied, supple, seamless beauty builds on the palate, has fine, silky tannins, no hard edges, beautifully integrated oak, and a great finish.

Two dozen long-stemmed roses and a cup of cocoa, cherry blossoms, espresso, licorice and spice on the nose. Polished tannins, silky, lush, textures, freshness and vibrancy, the finish is all juicy, dark plums and even dark chocolate. Made from 100% Merlot and reaching 14.8% alcohol, the wine is aging in 100% new French oak.

(VN 90-93 points) The 2016 Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard is every bit as promising as it has always been. Still in barrel, La Fleur possesses tremendous richness and pure power. Dark red cherry, plum, chocolate, torrefaction, spice and menthol all develop in the glass. I am not sure about the extended barrel aging for Le Plus, but time will ultimately be the judge of that. -- Antonio Galloni

An 'uber cuvée' made in a different style to the softer, fresher Château La Fleur de Boüard. It's clearly extremely well made, with ripe, plush, velvety damson fruits on full charge. 100% Merlot aged in 100% new oak for 36 months. They are just bottling the 2014 right now. The 2016 Le Plus (100% Merlot) has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and rocks up with a flamboyantly-scented nose of Morello cherries, warm black plum, blackberry preserves and chocolate box with a touch of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is laden with open-knit black fruit preserves, sparked by dried herbs and textured with soft, rounded tannins, finishing with a lively lift. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown
