Oak? Yes, it's there, although subtle. Acidity? Yes, the giver of life now and into the future. collapse

Slightly above-average January and February temperatures were offset by a welcome 90mm of January rain. Markedly floral, there's a white blossom character to both nose and back-palate. It's a concentrated wine with gently granular fresh and dried pear notes, accompanied by silkier white peach. Succulent, ripe lemony acidity is well integrated and gently sheathed by nougat-inflected creamy lees. Lovely lithe mouthfeel and beautiful harmony. collapse

The secret weapon here is the sleek acidity, which weaves in and out, giving the flavors definition and verve. Drink now through 2034. 800 cases imported. — MW collapse

Love the aromas of coconut and pralines with cooked apple, lemon and pecan-pie undertones. Medium-to full-bodied, layered and complete with a juicy and savory aftertaste. Delicious all round. Drink now. Screw cap.

Yes, there's oak, but it's in the background to the concentrated fruit in this silky-textured, medium to full-bodied effort. Based on the superb concentration, length and an admirable track record, it should age well through at least 2030. - Joe Czerwinski collapse

A mélange of concentrated melon and pineapple fruit swirls with butterscotch toast and slightly nutty, salty seashell aromas and flavors. Nevertheless, the Leeuwin signature is still there and this should continue to age until 2030. - CHRISTINA PICKARD collapse

The “Art Series” represents Leeuwin’s most opulent & age-worthy wines from each vintage. They are identified with paintings commissioned from leading contemporary Australian artists.

Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay is aromatically complex and packed with flavor but maintains vivid acidity. The wine is fruit forward, typically citrus-driven but also showing pear and nuances of stone fruit. Oak-aging adds depth and gentle accents, such as cinnamon, but no overt woody notes. The wines easily age, and improve, for a good 15 years.

Winery

Leeuwin Estate

Leeuwin Estate is a family-owned Australian winery and one of the five founding wineries in the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia. Formerly a cattle ranch, the property was converted to vineyards by Denis and Tricia Horgan upon the advice of legendary Napa Valley winemaker Robert Mondavi when he visited Australia and saw the estate’s potential as being ideal for the production of premium wines.

The estate enjoyed its first commercial vintage in 1979 and was quickly thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1980 "Art Series" Chardonnay. Leeuwin now exports to 30 markets. The estate releases wines under the Art Series, Prelude Vineyards and Siblings labels.

Celebrating the combination of fine wine, food, art and music, Leeuwin features an award winning restaurant, cellar door and art gallery. The estate is renowned for staging spectacular events and welcoming visitors from around the world.
