The 2016 Pinot Noir “Estate” bottling from Lingua Franca is a lovely example of this vintage, coming in at a cool thirteen percent octane and offering up a complex and nicely new oaky nose of black cherries, woodsmoke, cola, lovely soil tones, a bit of fresh herbs and a refined framing of spicy new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and well-balanced, with a good core, ripe, moderate tannins and a long, tangy and nascently complex finish. This is still a young wine and deserves three to five years in the cellar prior to drinking it in earnest. It has excellent potential.
