For over three generations, the Sassetti family has been producing wine in Montalcino. The “Podere Pertimali”, with its 16 hectares of vineyards, is nestled on a slope in the Montosoli hill, north of Montalcino—one of the most favorable terroirs for Sangiovese in the area. Maintaining the family tradition, Livio Sassetti has renovated and extended the vineyards, retaining the genetic material of the original vines and preserving their characteristics.

Livio was among the founders of Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino in 1967. In 1968, he built a terracotta wall in his cellar, to keep the old vintages of the wines produced by his family. Today, this collection counts over 1000 bottles, among which stands out as the ‘grandmother’ of the current production - a bottle from the 1915 vintage!

In 1999, the Sassetti family purchased a property in the Tuscan Maremma, La Querciolina, within the DOC Montecucco. Thanks to their passion and experience, untended fields were nutured into into vineyards which produce Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo of great quality.

Today, both wineries are managed by Lorenzo Sassetti, Livio’s son, who is focused in continuing his family’s winemaking tradition.

Pertimali Brunello di Montalcino is 100% Sangiovese. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel and matured in barrel for 36 months, and again in bottle for another 6 months.

The 2016 Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Brunello di Montalcino is a remarkable wine that embodies the essence of Tuscany. With its deep red color and elegant label, it exudes sophistication and allure. Crafted from the Sangiovese Grosso varietal, this wine showcases the true potential of this grape.

Upon pouring a glass of this Brunello di Montalcino, one is immediately captivated by its enticing aromas. The nose is filled with luscious blackberries, black walnuts, and black cherries, creating a symphony of dark fruits. As the wine opens up, intriguing notes of smoked wood, wood tannins, and even black truffles reveal themselves, adding complexity and depth.

On the palate, the Pertimali Brunello di Montalcino is full-bodied and powerful, with an abundance of chewy tannins that give structure and texture. It is a wine that demands attention and commands the senses. The flavors of blackberries and cherries continue to shine, accompanied by hints of wet earth, black olive, and porcini mushrooms. This wine truly has a lot going on, and with each sip, it reveals new layers of flavor and nuance.

The reviews from esteemed critics only reinforce the excellence of this wine. James Suckling awards it a perfect score of 100, describing its crazy finish and recommending to try it after 2025.
