Full bodied and delicious, the linear, energized palate features ripe Marasca cherry, licorice, mint and vanilla before a coffee-bean finish. Firm, polished tannins and fresh acidity provide support. *Editors’ Choice* (KO)

The wine pours from the bottle with dark color saturation and ruby highlights. It shows no signs of fading, and that bright color intensity is a common thread in this vintage. There is a good amount of Sangiovese acidity that reinforces the lifted and buoyant style achieved here. It ages in both tonneau and botte for 30 months. - Monica Larner

It’s silky and pliant with a gorgeous display of ripe red and hints of black fruit. There’s a sweet and sour element here that I find quite attractive, as the 2016 gains a tactile feel toward the close through a mix of brisk acids and rounded tannins. The length and classic structure on the finish completes the expression, leaving dark florals and mineral earth tones. Talenti remains one of the best values in age-worthy Brunello in the market. That said, it’s also worth checking in on a bottle early to enjoy all of its primary intensity. -- Eric Guido

Making the wine since 1999, Riccardo Talenti amasses the different components to achieve an overall balance of ripeness, acidity and alcohol. The 2016 is less immediately expressive and effusively fragrant than previous vintages. Nevertheless, its discreet charms are apparent. There's an earthy, nutty tug underneath spiced red fruit, and it demonstrates Sangiovese’s weightlessness and tactile powdery tannins. Tangy and mineral-driven on the finish. (MM)

Talenti Brunello di Montalcino is the red wine which constitutes the “heart” of the Talenti winery. Since 1981, it’s been produced with 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in the winery’s best vineyard blocks.

After careful vinification, the wine matures in oak barrels (26 and 18 hl) with a small percentage aging in 500 liter tonneaus for two and a half years. 12 months aging in the bottle follow before release.

Winery

Talenti

The Talenti Winery is situated in the south of Montalcino, not far from the small medieval borough of S. Angelo in Colle. The winery was established in 1980 by Pierluigi Talenti who had fallen in love with the fascinating property and grounds, and decided to leave the mountains of his native Romagna for the sweet and sunny hills of Montalcino.

The winery now owns a total of 40 hectares, about 21 of which are vineyards. Sixteen of the hectares are Sangiovese. The remaining five hectares hold a mix of varieties such as Colorino, Canaiolo, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet. The vines grow in a rocky soil of medium density at an altitude of about 650 to 400 feet.

Since 1999, the winery has been managed by Pierluigi’s grandson Riccardo Talenti who continues his family’s work with the same dedication and passion of the past years. Experience and thorough research of new technologies combined with a healthy respect for tradition allowed the winery to reach the high levels of quality it enjoys today.
