Enormous depth and concentration, but although this is already very attractive it needs a couple of years for the tannins, fruit and lees creaminess to completely integrate. If you can wait until at least 2019 this will be a stunning dry wine that can hold it's own with the world's best. Decades of ageing potential.

At nearly eight grams of residual sugar, this is the exception to the rule among Wechsler’s generally bone-dry 2016s. White peach on the nose takes on quite lusciously juicy presence on a polished palate, while cooling green herbal inflections and bittersweet inner-mouth floral perfume enhance a sense of soothing caress quite at odds with the personality of this year’s Kirchspiel or Morstein bottlings (different though each of those is from the other). Chalk and wet stone are prominent on the lingering finish but serve to set off the wine’s generous fruit rather than engendering any austerity.-DS

(90+ points) The 2016 Westhofener Benn Riesling exhibits a clear, elegant, pretty subtle yet aromatic bouquet of ripe bright fruits intermixed with some herbal aromas. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, round and charmingly fruity Riesling with a lush texture and a well-structured, persistently salty and aromatic finish. The 2016 is very well balanced thanks to the fresh and mineral acidity. Tasted October 2017.- SR
