Domaine de Chevalier of the Pessac-Leognan appellation is classified as a Grand Cru Classe de Graves. The property belonged to the Ricard family from 1865 until it was purchased by its current owners, the Bernard family, in 1983. It is one of a very few Bordeaux estates to have kept its “domaine” title instead of using the the more popular “chateau” designation.

The estate covers a hundred hectares, of which 45 are under vine: 40 for the property’s red wines, and 5 for its whites. The vineyards are planted with 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot for the red wines, and 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon for the white wines. Soils are dark sand and fine white gravel.

Domaine de Chevalier has been run since acquisition by Olivier Bernard, who perpetuates that spirit of balance and the constant drive for perfection which have been the hallmark of their outstanding wines. The flagship red belongs to the elite of the great classified growths of Bordeaux, while the white is recognized as one of the world’s finest dry wines. The domaine also produces red and white second wines under the Esprit de Chevalier label, which are made from the estate’s young vines.

In the picturesque region of Bordeaux, France, lies the exquisite 2017 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc. This white wine is a true gem, crafted with care and precision by the renowned producer, Domaine de Chevalier.

With a pale golden hue that glistens in the glass, this Bordeaux Blanc is a sight to behold. The nose is immediately greeted by delicate floral notes, setting the stage for an enchanting experience. As the aromas evolve, crushed stone and a generous offering of citrus emerge, adding depth and complexity to the bouquet.

On the palate, this wine reveals its true character. It is fertile, fat, and full of life, captivating the senses with its vibrant flavors. The finish is virtually unending, leaving a lasting impression with a mélange of pulpy citrus and bracing acidity. The mouthfeel is luxurious, with a perfect balance of richness and freshness.

The 2017 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is crafted from a blend of 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Semillon. The high percentage of Semillon is a result of the frost, which contributed to the wine's unique composition. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, this wine showcases the exceptional quality of the vintage.

Esteemed wine critics have showered this wine with praise. Jeff Leve awarded it a remarkable score of 97 points, describing it as a wine full of life and offering a captivating finish. James Suckling awarded it an impressive 98 points, highlighting its power, structure, and incredible depth. Jeb Dunnuck bestowed a score of 96 points, praising its concentration, mid-palate, and stunning balance.

The 2017 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a wine of immense quality and aging potential. It will continue to evolve and develop its flavors over the next two decades. For those who appreciate the finest Bordeaux Blanc, this wine is a must-try.

Indulge in this remarkable creation from Domaine de Chevalier and experience the allure of Bordeaux in every sip. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for years to come, this white wine is sure to enchant even the most discerning palates.
