95+ The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin from Domaine Trapet is absolutely brilliant in this vintage and was a bit more open for inspection than the reclusive Chapelle. The bouquet is pure, already very complex and utterly refined, wafting from the glass in a blend of black plums, black cherries, Cuban cigar wrapper, bitter chocolate, mustard seed, a hint of fresh nutmeg, a complex base of dark soil tones and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bdoied, pure and vibrant, with a lovely core of fruit, fine-grained tannins, bright acids and a very long, complex and utterly suave finish. This is still a very young wine, but it is so beautifully balanced this year that one can easily imagine it being drunk in its relative youth. That said, I would try to give it at least a decade’s worth of bottle age to allow its secondary layers to fully emerge. Great juice.
