JA 94

janeanson.com, October 2021

A rare chance to taste this wine, as there are only 140 bottles left at the estate after a savage frost that affected 97% of the vineyard, save a sliver of clay soils around the main château. Inevitably this means an...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2018

(92-94) Due to heavy frost damage, only 1,000 numbered magnums were produced for this vintage. Blue-black dark with a faultlessly effective density of flavor, richness and length, the wine is round with impressive...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2018

(WA 92-94+ points) Fleur Cardinale was hit very hard by the frost—nearly all the vineyards were wiped out. Potential production for 2017 is only around 1,000 magnums. The tentative blend of the 2017 Fleur Cardinale is...

Wine Spectator, April 2018

(90-93) This has a toasty profile, featuring ganache and warm tobacco notes surrounding a core of lightly steeped plum and blackberry fruit. Shows good flesh and depth, with a graphite accent buried through the finish. A...

jamessuckling.com, April 2018

(91-92) A fresh and bright red with plum and currant character. Medium-bodied, tight and focused. On it. Only 1,000 mags made.

jebdunnuck.com, April 2018

(90-92) The 2017 Château Fleur Cardinale is a tweaked blend of 45% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon that’s aging in 100% new French oak. Unfortunately, due to the April frosts, there are only 1,000...

Chateau Fleur Cardinale is located on a limestone plateau just a few miles from the historic village of Saint-Emilion. Due to continuous investments in the vineyard and in the winery, and its consistent quality, Chateau Fleur Cardinale was promoted to the rank of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe in 2006, and re-confirmed in 2012.

In 2011, the owners also acquired Chateau Croix Cardinale, next to the main estate. They now offer four wines: Chateau Fleur Cardinale, Chateau Croix Cardinale, Secret de Cardinale, and Bois Cardinale.

The two properties include 23.5 hectares for Chateau Fleur Cardinale and 4 hectares for Chateau Croix Cardinale. Both vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soil in the middle of the hillsides, and enjoy an identical harvest time.

Varietal distribution is 75% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The growing methods used at Chateau Fleur Cardinale are traditional, and the thinning of crops and leaves is done without chemicals.

The grand vin of Chateau Fleur Cardinale displays a deep color and powerful ripe fruit aromas mingling with floral notes. Feminine in style, the wines have a seductive, rich mouth-feel, underpinned by elegant, silky tannins. The finish is long and harmonious, promising very long aging potential in bottle.
