Il Marroneto is regarded as one of ten historic companies of Montalcino. Purchased in 1974 by Giuseppe Mori, a lawyer and father of the current owner of the company, Alessandro Mori, he decided to make Brunello, “a little for fun and a bit for passion”. Together with his two sons, they began their wine adventure using two small rooms in one of the estate’s historic buildings dating to 1246, previously used for drying chestnuts.

The vineyards of Il Marroneto extend on the north slope of the hill, about 350m high, in the immediate vicinity of the walls of the town of Montalcino. The first 3,000 meters of vineyard were planted in 1975, the rest in 1979 and finally 9,000 meters were planted in 1984.

Vineyard management is based on a traditional and minimalist philosophy, treating the vines as little as possible, avoiding excessive production, and following the practice of using natural grasses between vine rows. Great attention has been paid to the vineyard’s ecosystem, allowing the Sangiovese to have space to develop excellent roots. The result is a very elegant wine, rich in aromas, classic, and worthy of contemplation.

Il Marroneto’s classical Brunello, from 100% Sangiovese Grosso, is made in the traditional style - elegant and at the same time, structured. It results from a vinification whose aim is to show as much as possible the wonderful aromatics of the varietal and allow the terroir of the vineyard and the region to shine.

The 2017 Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino is a remarkable red wine hailing from the prestigious region of Tuscany, Italy. Crafted from the Sangiovese Grosso grape, this vintage showcases the expertise and artistry of the renowned producer, Il Marroneto.

In the glass, this wine exhibits a captivating deep red color, enticing and alluring. Its aromas are a symphony of delightful scents, with lifted fragrances of wild broom and mandarin mingling with earthier notes of ash and roasted chestnut. The nose is further complemented by a sweet and sour sensation of red cherries, creating an intriguing olfactory experience.

On the palate, the Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino 2017 reveals a beautiful midweight structure that is simultaneously light and concentrated in flavor. The red cherry palate is characterized by a harmonious balance of sweet and sour notes, while fine, powdery tannins impart a distinctive and layered texture. The wine culminates in a delightful finale of gingerbread, adding a touch of intrigue to the overall tasting experience.

Esteemed wine publications have bestowed high praise upon this vintage. Decanter awarded it an impressive score of 93, noting its midweight presentation and distinguishing tactile texture. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate rated it 95, highlighting its lean-bodied nature, exotic aromas, and elegant silkiness. Vinous also awarded it 93 points, commending its vibrancy, fresh expression, and well-muscled interpretation. Wine Enthusiast and Kerin O'Keefe both rated it an outstanding 97, emphasizing its enticing scents, savory palate, and taut, polished tannins.

The Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino 2017 is a truly exceptional wine that embodies the essence of the renowned Brunello di Montalcino sub-region. It is already showing beautifully, but its fine sipping potential suggests it will continue to evolve and delight for years to come. Indulge in this extraordinary expression of Italian winemaking and savor the craftsmanship that went into creating such a magnificent vintage.
