From a steep, southwest-facing vineyard on very shallow calcareous marl soils, the 2017 Ried Sulz Morillon is from Tement's warmest spot. Vinified in Burgundian pièces and 1,000-liter oak vats for one year and another six months in stainless steel, the wine opens precise and slightly flinty on the pure and bright nose, with delicate brioche, lemon and caramel aromas. Mouth-fillingly round yet pure, fresh and salty-piquant on the palate, this is a complex and attractively juicy, very stimulating Morillon with fine tannin grip and a refreshing mineral backbone. A very gastronomic wine that already drinks perfectly well. Tasted in May 2019. - SR
