Full-bodied and laden with layers of pure, vibrant black and blue fruits, it has a firm, rounded tannin texture and long, refreshing finish.- LPB

This is an innovative, tidy style of wine, which in part comes from their move to a different way of aging -- both new, French oak and clay amphora. 91-93 Read more at:https://www.thewinecellarinsider.com/search-wine-tasting-notes/?szSearch=2018+Mangot

(91-92) This is refined and linear with dark berries, chocolate and hints of dark tea. Medium body. Firm tannins. Spicy finish.

The palate is medium-bodied and has firmed up since I tasted it from barrel, that prenatal pliancy replaced by more backbone and grip. The oak here is well used and there is commendable sustain on the finish, though I think this will close up for a period before reopening. -- Neal Martin

With medium-bodied richness and fine, elegant tannins, this complex, nuanced, balanced 2018 shines for its purity of fruit and overall harmony more than overt power and richness. It's beautifully done. Give bottles 3-4 years and enjoy over the following decade.

Chateau Mangot

Chateau Mangot is a Right Bank Bordeaux estate situated in the east of the Saint-Emilion appellation, within the boundaries of Saint Etienne de Lisse. The estate has a long history dating back to 1546, described in 1559 as having plots of vines planted in ‘belts’ and ‘lines’.

The estate’s 85-acre vineyard is planted primarily with Merlot complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 40 years with some Merlot parcels over 60 years of age. The vineyard has four zones of terroir that include 21 separate plots at altitudes between 115 and 280 feet. Soils are mostly clay and limestone making for interesting final blends. The greater limestone presence also gives the Mangot wines density and fullness while retaining freshness, tightness and minerality.
