jebdunnuck.com, December 2019

(95-97 points) A classic wine from this terroir, the 2018 Côte Rôtie La Landonne has a powerful, smoky, minerality style as well as rocking cassis and black raspberry fruit, full body, the plush, sexy, opulence of the...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2021

The dark-hued 2018 Cote Rotie La Landonne remains one of the stars of the Delas stable. Hints of thyme and sage appear on the nose alongside deep mocha shadings, raspberries and blueberries. Concentrated and tannic, this...

Smelling this is like reclining into a huge leather sofa! Very rich and concentrated, but also with a major structure that will need some time to completely resolve. As it aerates, it grows in complexity, gaining a lot of...

Wine Spectator, February 2021

Vibrant and racy version with raspberry, blackberry and lack cherry fruit driving along with good energy while graphite, violet and smoldering bay hints fill in throughout. Very solid through the finish. Best from 2022...

Wine & Spirits, February 2021

From an old-vine parcel in this famed lieu-dit of the Côte Brune, this is dense and monolithic in its youth. Work it in the glass and you’ll find glimmers of fresh plum, lilacs, pepper and stone, but the main impression...

Founded in 1835 by Charles Audibert and Phillipe Delas, the celebrated Delas Freres winery grows 30 hectares of vines comprising 10 hectares in Hermitage (including the Domaines des Tourettes estate), 2 hectares in Saint-Joseph, and 18 hectares in Crozes-Hermitage.

In addition to the grapes produced by Delas' own wine growing team, Delas' close relationships with like-minded owner-winegrowers ensure that the company is able to source grapes grown on individual parcels, which reflect their own unique terroir.

Exclusively a family-owned operation for over a century, Delas Freres joined forces with Champagne Deutz in 1977. In 1993, Deutz and Delas Freres were approached by the Rouzaud family, majority shareholder in the Roederer Group. They joined the Roederer Group under whose umbrella Delas' philosophy continues to flourish.

Introducing the 2018 Delas Freres Cote Rotie la Landonne, a remarkable Syrah from the renowned Northern Rhone region of France. This wine exudes elegance and complexity, embodying the essence of Cote Rotie's terroir. With its deep ruby color, this red wine is a true visual delight.

On the nose, the aromas are captivating, offering a sensory experience akin to sinking into a plush leather sofa. The richness and concentration of the wine are immediately apparent, but it is the underlying structure that truly sets it apart. As the wine aerates, it reveals layers of subtle herbal and spice notes, adding to its complexity and allure.

The palate is a symphony of flavors, with cassis and black raspberry taking the lead. Full-bodied and opulent, this wine showcases the plushness and sexiness of the vintage, while maintaining balance and purity. The finish is exceptionally long, with an interplay of mineral and savory notes that linger on the palate for what seems like an eternity.

According to respected wine critic James Suckling, this wine can be enjoyed now or cellared for further development. Similarly, Jeb Dunnuck praises the wine's power, smoky minerality, and wealth of fruit, predicting a stunning evolution over time. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate highlights the rich, velvety mouthfeel and ripe tannins that promise a rewarding aging potential.

Vinous underscores the wine's glass-staining ruby color and intense aromatics, with notes of candied flowers, exotic spices, and smoky minerals. The palate is weighty yet lithe, displaying exceptional clarity and complexity. Wine & Spirits, on the other hand, suggests giving this wine some years in the cellar to fully appreciate its density and monolithic character.

Lastly, Wine Spectator commends the wine's vibrancy, racy acidity, and the interplay of fruit and savory elements. With its impressive score of 94, this wine is a testament to the exceptional quality of the 2018 vintage.

In conclusion, the 2018 Delas Freres Cote Rotie la Landonne is a wine of remarkable character and depth. It embodies the unique charm of Cote Rotie and offers a sensory journey that is both captivating and unforgettable. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, this wine is a true gem in the world of Syrah.
