This small 0.18ha block sits in a hollow close to the RN6 that runs up to Saint Aubin and can be frost prone in years like 2016. In 2018, it's humid soils were a buffer against heat stress, producing a wine that's rich and textured, with fennel and vanilla spice on the nose and a palate that marries honey and tangerine flavours with vivid balancing acidity.

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes opens in the glass with scents of citrus oil, white flowers, fresh nutmeg and green apple, framed by a touch of light reduction that dissipates with aeration. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny but precise, with lively acids and a long, mineral finish. I suspect it will become more honeyed and exotic as it ages. - WK
