Solaia is a 50 acre (20 hectare), southwest-exposed vineyard of the Tignanello estate situated between 1150 and 1320 feet (350-400 meters) above sea level on stony soils consisting of calcareous clays and limestone rock. The Marchesi Antinori produced this wine for the first time in the 1978 vintage with a blend consisting of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, repeating the initial production in 1979. In the following vintages, 20% Sangiovese became part of the blend and adjustments to the ratio of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were made until the current composition of the blend was defined. Solaia is produced only in top vintages and was not produced in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, or 1992.

The 2019 Antinori Solaia IGT is a proprietary blend from Tuscany, Italy, crafted by the renowned Antinori estate. This red wine, sealed with a traditional cork, is composed of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 20% Sangiovese, resulting in an alcohol content of 13.0%.

James Suckling awarded this vintage an impressive 98 points, emphasizing its "complex array of blackberries, black cherries, cocoa, dried herbs, and slate," with refined tannins and an understated power. He suggests it will reach its peak in 2025. Wine Spectator also scored it 98, highlighting its "intense black currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit" with a "solid spine of tannins" and advising that it will be best enjoyed between 2026 and 2045.

Decanter, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, and Wine Enthusiast each rated the wine 97 points. Decanter praised its "ripe and sweet" aromas, describing it as "brooding and confident" with elements of red flowers, white pepper, and chocolate. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate noted the "beautifully velvety and soft" tannins, calling it "another blockbuster success" from Antinori and emphasizing its expressive nature, thanks to the Galestro-rich soils of the Solaia vineyard. Wine Enthusiast's Danielle Callegari found it "exceptionally drinkable now," with a palate featuring dark chocolate and chili peppers.

Vinous also awarded the 2019 Solaia 97 points, with Antonio Galloni complimenting its "succulent dark cherry, plum, licorice, and grilled herbs." He remarked on the increased Cabernet Franc in the blend, attributing its refined nature to this change.

Overall, the 2019 Antinori Solaia IGT is a well-balanced and highly acclaimed wine, showcasing the harmonious integration of its varietals and the distinctive character of its terroir.
