The masterpiece of Castellare, I Sodi di San Niccolo, has twice placed in the top 100 of Wine Spectator, and has been awarded “Three Glasses” by Il Gambero Rosso.

I Sodi di San Niccolo is produced solely with native varieties: 85-90% of Sangioveto and 10-15% of Malvasia Nera, I Sodi comes from the two best crus of the farm.

The word "I Sodi" was used by the Tuscan farmers to describe those grounds which had to be processed by hand, being too hard (in fact firm) or too steep to allow for the employment of the horses, unlike the "fields" that make the grounds more easily cultivable.

They described it as an "intense, vibrant red" with "haunting scents of violet, black cherry, blackberry, wild rosemary, eucalyptus and iron." Vinous' Antonio Galloni also rated the wine 95, calling it "another fabulous wine from Castellare." He highlighted the purity of the fruit and noted that the 2019 vintage, despite its intensity, has less forbidding tannins than previous years, making it more approachable with minimal cellaring. Galloni mentioned lingering notes of blood orange, sweet spice, leather, and cedar on the finish.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, through Monica Larner, also rated the wine 95, noting its "soft texture and medium weight" with dark aromas of blackcurrant and cherry. Larner praised its earthy or savory side and sweet tannins, emphasizing the wine's solid build and overall balance.

James Suckling gave the wine a score of 96, describing it as having "complex and deeply embedded aromas of ripe blackberries, spices and aromatic bark." He highlighted its full-bodied nature and impressive concentration of fruit and tannin. Suckling concluded that while it is great to taste now, it is one for the cellar, with the best drinking window from 2027 onwards.
