Blackcurrants, fresh flowers, and blue berries with sandalwood. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins and a fresh finish. Very fine, focused and bright. Cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot. Best after 2025.

Vigna d’Alceo is Castello dei Rampolla’s first biodynamic wine. It represents a union between the two generations of the Castello dei Rampolla winery: Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot as the founder Alceo, wished and biodynamic as his children, Luca and Maurizia, practice.

The wine is fermented in concrete, then aged in 500L barrels for 12-15 months and in bottle for 18-24. It fully reflects the character of the vineyard from which it originates. It is intense, warm, refined and elegant.Well-ripened red fruits blend perfectly with delicate notes of cigar and tobacco - an amazing concentration with no heaviness.

The 2019 Castello dei Rampolla Vigna d'Alceo IGT is a proprietary blend from Tuscany, Italy, composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot. This red wine has garnered much acclaim from professional reviewers for its balanced complexity and elegance.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded this wine an impressive score of 98, describing it as "a classic beauty." Reviewer Monica Larner elaborates, "The 2019 d'Alceo is dark and enriched, but magically, it is never heavy or bulky. It carries its weight with feather-like grace backed by dry tannins and lovely fruit layering." She highlights the presence of "blackcurrant, kirsch, blackberry liqueur, exotic spice, black rose and crushed stone," noting that the mineral aspect stands out like "a filigree of shiny silver stitched through the wine's rich, velvety texture."

Vinous also gave the wine high marks, scoring it 97. Antonio Galloni of Vinous praises the wine for its combination of power and elegance, stating, "Rampolla's 2019 D'Alceo is creamy and resonant in the glass. Inky dark fruit, lavender, blackberry and spice all meld together in a wine that combines power and elegance. Seamless tannins extend the finish effortlessly." Galloni further emphasizes that while D'Alceo is often a powerhouse, the 2019 vintage is particularly "sublime."

James Suckling provided a slightly lower, but still excellent, score of 95. He notes, "Blackcurrants, fresh flowers, and blueberries with sandalwood. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins and a fresh finish. Very fine, focused and bright." Suckling recommends that this wine is best enjoyed after 2025, suggesting that it will benefit from some additional aging.

In summary, the 2019 Castello dei Rampolla Vigna d'Alceo IGT is a highly regarded wine that showcases the elegance and complexity expected from a quality Tuscan red blend. With its rich fruit flavors and intricate mineral notes, this wine is poised to continue impressing both reviewers and wine enthusiasts alike.
