Alter Ego is a different, nuanced expression of the Chateau Palmer terroir. Born with the 1998 vintage, Alter Ego resulted from a new approach to selecting and blending, intended to interpret the Chateau Palmer terroir differently without departing from the values that make the reputation of the estate’s wines – namely, finesse and elegance, aromatic richness, harmony and length.

Made in roughly the same volume as Chateau Palmer, Alter Ego spends less time in oak, just 16 to 18 months, and only 25% to 40% of the wood is new.

Offering intense, crispy and juicy fruits, Alter Ego is a spontaneous uninhibited wine, soft and round as soon as it has finished barrel aging. Its lush aromas and supple tannins make it a wine that can be appreciated in the first years after bottling.

The 2019 Palmer Alter Ego is a Bordeaux Blend from the renowned Margaux region in Bordeaux, France, crafted by Chateau Palmer. With a vintage year of 2019, this red wine boasts an alcohol content of 14.5% and is sealed with a traditional cork.

This wine has received high praise from a variety of esteemed reviewers. James Suckling awarded it an impressive 96 points, highlighting the "intense aromas of blackcurrants, cedar, and ripe tobacco with hints of violets." He describes it as having "extremely refined tannins" and praises its "precision and harmony." Decanter also commends the wine with a 95-point score, noting its "gorgeous rich dark purple" appearance and describing it as "beautifully balanced" with "integrated tannins and oak."

Vinous, through Neal Martin, provided a 94-point review, appreciating its "delineated and focused" nose with "blackberry, cedar and graphite scents." Martin suggests that this wine is "complex" and "cerebral" with a firm finish. Echoing similar sentiments, Jeb Dunnuck also rated it 94 points, emphasizing its "dense purple hue" and "rich, concentrated aromas and flavors" that give it the feel of a Grand Vin.

Jane Anson, with a 93-point review, notes its "enveloping aromatics" and describes it as having "fine spice and clarity," while Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, with a 91-point score, highlights its "sweet cherries, raspberries, and berry fruit liqueur" aromas. The Wine Enthusiast's Roger Voss, giving it a 94-point score, emphasizes its "finely perfumed" nature and the promise of "fine aging."

The 2019 Palmer Alter Ego is a wine that combines complexity with approachability and is expected to age gracefully, making it a notable choice for both immediate enjoyment and long-term cellaring.
