The Wine Independent, May 2023

(99+ points) Made from 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Leoville Las Cases is deep garnet-purple in color. It bursts from the glass with seductive scents of black cherry compote, creme...

Wine Enthusiast, January 1970

(97–99 points) Barrel Sample. This is an immense wine. Made from 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, it shows great structure, richness and aging potential. The tannins are ripe, showing the gentlest of extraction and are what is...

jamessuckling.com, February 2022

Currants and blackberries with crushed stones, bark and some conifer and pine cone. Perfumed. Discreet. Medium-to full-bodied with an integrated tannin structure that’s full of fine tannins that are weightless and...

janeanson.com, October 2021

This is just a great Las Cases where the structure expands upwards and outwards, making your tastebuds sit up and pay attention. The scraping minerality almost feels like you are on limestone instead of gravel soils...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, March 2022

The new version of classic modern is on display here. While the 2019 lacks the power of the 2018, instead you find one of the few great vintages of Leoville Las Cases that you can enjoy relatively early, which is early...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2022

The 2019 Léoville Las Cases is a brilliant young wine that will delight Bordeaux purists. Unwinding in the glass with scents of cassis, dark berries, cigar wrapper and pencil shavings, it’s full-bodied, layered and...

Wine Spectator, January 2022

Remarkably sleek and pure, considering the generally burly and obvious tannic profile of the vintage. Delivers a pure and unadulterated beam of cassis and plum reduction flavors inlaid seamlessly with a glistening iron...

jebdunnuck.com, April 2022

(97+ points) More backward, deep, and layered, the Grand Vin 2019 Château Léoville Las Cases is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc that saw 90% new French oak. Just awesome aromatics of pure...

Vinous, February 2023

The 2019 Léoville Las-Cases is tasted from two bottles, but it is the second that really delivers the goods. It has a beautifully-defined bouquet with blackberry, black olive, subtle marine scents and touches of crushed...

Decanter, November 2023

This vintage shows great precision at four years of age, though still very young and precocious. Deep mineral tones leap from the glass, the crushed slate, smoke and bright blue fruits accented by a savoury note of...

One of the oldest Medoc estates, Domaine de Leoville belonged to some of the wealthiest and most influential noble French families before it was acquired by the Las Cases family. Like many properties after the French Revolution, the estate was divided between 1826 and 1840 into the three Leovilles we know today: Leoville-Las Cases, Leoville-Poyferre and Leoville-Barton.

Chateau Leoville-Las Cases was created, thanks to a kind of birthright, from three-fifths of the original estate, including the very heart of the property. The Grand Vin has therefore been sourced from the best part of the original terroir since the 17th century.

Pierre Jean, Adolphe, and Gabriel de Las Cases were successive heirs to the property until 1900, when Theophile Skawinski purchased a share in the estate and became its manager. Leoville-Las Cases has now been managed by the same family since the late 19th century and is today represented by Jean-Hubert Delon, sole owner of the chateau and proprietor of Chateau Potensac in the Medoc and Chateau Nenin in Pomerol.

The Grand Vin is the product of exceptional terroirs from the heart of the original Leoville estate. These are located mainly in the Clos Leoville-Las Cases, which you pass as you leave the village of Saint-Julien for Pauillac. They extend over nearly 60 hectares producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a complex, polished expression and characteristics which are totally unique to the Grand Vin of Las Cases.

The 2019 Leoville-Las Cases is a Bordeaux Blend red wine hailing from the esteemed region of St Julien in Bordeaux, France. This wine exudes elegance and finesse, with a deep and alluring red color that captivates the eye. The nose is filled with an enticing bouquet of currants and blackberries, accompanied by crushed stones, bark, and hints of conifer and pine cone. It is a perfumed wine that lures you in with its discreet charm.

On the palate, this wine showcases a medium-to-full body and an integrated tannin structure that is full of fine, weightless, and seamless tannins. These tannins build on the palate, creating a velvety texture reminiscent of heavy silk. The wine evolves beautifully, with layers of complexity unfolding as you savor each sip. It has a long, lingering finish that leaves you yearning for more.

The 2019 Leoville-Las Cases is composed of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, resulting in a harmonious blend that showcases the best of each varietal. This wine has received high praise from renowned wine critics, further solidifying its status as an exceptional vintage. James Suckling awarded it a score of 98 points, describing it as a wine that needs five or six years to fully open. Decanter gave it a score of 96 points, highlighting its deep mineral tones and earth-driven minerality. Vinous awarded it 97 points, praising its beautifully-defined bouquet and cohesive palate.

The 2019 Leoville-Las Cases is a wine with immense aging potential. It is recommended to wait at least five or six years before opening a bottle to fully appreciate its complexity and evolution. However, if you can't resist the temptation, this wine can still be enjoyed in its youth, albeit with the knowledge that it will continue to improve with age.

In summary, the 2019 Leoville-Las Cases is a Bordeaux Blend red wine that embodies elegance, finesse, and exceptional quality. Its layers of complexity, seamless tannins, and long finish make it a wine worth savoring. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, this wine is sure to impress even the most discerning of palates.
