Gorgeous aromas of dark plums and violets. Orange peel, too. Some crushed stone. Bark. Stems. Iron shavings. Full-bodied, but very tight and compacted. The tannins are all here making it very structured, yet they are...

Cool and confident, an effortless Margaux that’s a clear success in 2020. Vivid colour in the glass with a delicately perfumed nose. Smooth and graceful on the palate, silky yet rich too, deepening in layers, much more...

It is the elegance of the wine, silkiness in the tannins, and the purity in the fruits that form the character in this wine. On the palate, you find layers of sweet, refined, cherries, red plums, and black raspberries...

The Wine Independent, March 2023

The 2020 Chateau Margaux is deep garnet-purple in color. After a couple of swirls, notions of blackcurrant pastilles, redcurrant jelly, and juicy black plums soar from the glass, leading to underlying suggestions of dark...

Vinous, February 2023

The 2020 Château Margaux was one of the highlights of the barrel samples originally sent to my home during the lockdown, a wine that I afforded 24 hours to open. Visiting the château to taste the wine in bottle, alas, I...

This is a big wine, smoky and rich. With a higher proportion of Petit Verdot than in the past, it offers complexity and bold black fruits. The wine is structured while always ripe and generous. Drink this magnificent wine...

(97+ points) As to the Grand Vin, the 2020 Château Margaux is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, pulled from a tiny 36% of the total production, that spent 20 months in new...

Chateau Margaux is a famous wine estate in the Medoc region, which along with Lafite, Latour and Haut Brion, was rated a First Growth in the original 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It covers 262 hectares, of which 82 hectares are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, and 12 hectares to Sauvignon Blanc.

In the 12th century, the property was called “La Mothe de Margaux” (the Margaux mound) and by the 16th century, wine was being produced at the estate. In 1705, the London Gazette advertised the first auction of 230 barrels of “Margose” and the 1771 vintage was the first “claret” to appear in a Christie’s catalogue. Indeed one of America’s Founding Fathers and vintner in his own right, Thomas Jefferson, visited this great estate in the late 18th century and declared it to be a vineyard of “first quality”. When Bertrand Douat, Marquis de la Colonilla, acquired the estate, he built the chateau that is often nicknamed the “Versailles of the Medoc”, a rare example of the neo-palladian style in France.

Andre Mentzelopoulos purchased the property in 1977, investing heavily in the estate and a program of improvements. Since his death in 1980, the property has been run by his daughter Corinne who continued his work in restoring the chateau to its former glory.

Since the 17th Century, the grand vin of Chateau Margaux has been recognized as one of the greatest wines in the entire world. It owes its unique qualities to the genius of its terroir as well as to the passionate work of a succession of generations. It’s a remarkable wine that comes from a combination of characteristics that are only rarely found: finesse, elegance, complexity, density, intensity, length and freshness. Although its tannic concentration may be exceptional, it’s rare to detect astringency.

The great vintages are distinguished by their formidable ability to move us, while the lesser vintages give pleasure to wine enthusiasts. Chateau Margaux has an extraordinary ability to evolve with age, developing finesse, aromatic aromatic complexity, and a remarkable presence on the palate.

The 2020 Chateau Margaux is a truly exceptional Bordeaux Blend that showcases the epitome of elegance and complexity. With its deep red color and graceful presence, this wine immediately captures the attention of any discerning wine enthusiast.

Upon opening the bottle, the nose is greeted with a symphony of aromas. Dark berries and cherries mingle with hints of rose petals, iris, burning embers, and pencil lead, creating a bouquet that is both alluring and intriguing. As the wine breathes, additional layers of allspice, tobacco, truffle, smoke, roasted plums, and currants emerge, adding to its complexity.

On the palate, this Margaux reveals its true character. Medium to full-bodied, it offers a deep and concentrated flavor profile that is both powerful and refined. Ripe currants, blueberries, and acacia flowers take center stage, supported by underlying notes of crushed stone, sandalwood, and a touch of sweet spice. The wine effortlessly glides across the palate, thanks to its silky tannins and impeccable balance.

Notably, the 2020 Chateau Margaux stands out as the most classically proportioned wine of the 2018, 2019, and 2020 trio. It is a vibrant and dynamic expression of its terroir, showcasing the unique characteristics of the Margaux region in Bordeaux, France.

With a 13.5% alcohol content, this wine offers a harmonious blend of power and finesse. It is a wine that can be enjoyed now, but also has the potential to age gracefully for decades to come. This Chateau Margaux is a true masterpiece, a prodigious vintage that will continue to captivate wine lovers for years to come.

Renowned wine critics and publications have also recognized the excellence of the 2020 Chateau Margaux. With scores ranging from 97 to 100 points, it is clear that this wine has captured the hearts and palates of experts in the industry. It has been praised for its purity of fruit, remarkable balance, precise flavors, and enduring finish.

In conclusion, the 2020 Chateau Margaux is a wine that embodies the essence of Bordeaux. With its stunning aromas, complex flavors, and impeccable structure, it is a true testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of the renowned Chateau Margaux. This wine is a must-try for any wine connoisseur seeking an exceptional Bordeaux experience.
