kerinokeefe.com, August 2024

The 2020 Barolo Bricco Boschis is smooth, enveloping and delicious. Made with organically farmed grapes, it opens with inviting aromas of wild rose, forest berry, tobacco and new leather while the delicious palate doles...

Decanter, March 2024

Full of details of prunes, stony salinity, earthy notes and forest floor, tannins firm and slightly sticky on the gums, but with crisp acidity. It's almost austere on the finish, but dynamic and balanced nonetheless...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, January 2025

Opening to a dark Nebbiolo color, the organic Cavallotto 2020 Barolo Bricco Boschis is a little richer in this vintage. The quality of aromas also takes on a bigger profile with dried blackberry, licorice and earthy black...

Wine Spectator, February 2025

This spicy red delivers cherry, raspberry, earth and eucalyptus flavors on a broad, dense frame, yet still remains fluid. Burly tannins put a lock on the finish, where accents of orange peel and spices linger. Best from...

jebdunnuck.com, May 2024

A youthful saturated red/ruby color, the 2020 Barolo Bricco Boschis leaps from the glass with tangy aromas of sour cherries, orange peel, clove (it smells like heffeweisen), and dried earth. The palate is lovely...

Vinous, January 2025

The 2020 Barolo Bricco Boschis is beautifully rich and resonant right out of the gate. Black cherry, blackberry, licorice, cloves, leather and scorched earth are amplified in this decidedly dense, large-scaled Barolo from...

Cavallotto’s Barolo Bricco Boschis 2020 is a single-vineyard Barolo DOCG from Castiglione Falletto, made from organically farmed fruit on the estate’s historic Bricco Boschis site. The Cavallotto family has worked this property since buying the Boschis estate in 1928, and the wine is shaped by a traditionally long élevage: Monica Larner reports in *Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate* that it spends “36 months in Slavonian oak casks.” The same review pegs alcohol at 14.5% and notes a production of 18,582 bottles.

In the glass, the 2020 reads as a slightly more powerful, earlier-opening expression of the cru. Larner calls it “a little richer in this vintage,” with aromas taking on “a bigger profile with dried blackberry, licorice and earthy black truffle,” while adding that the wine’s usual “delicate mineral and floral nuances…are less prominent in 2020.” Antonio Galloni (*Vinous*, 93) similarly finds it “beautifully rich and resonant,” layering “black cherry, blackberry, licorice, cloves, leather and scorched earth,” and suggests it may “shed some baby fat” with time.

Several critics deliver excellent reviews, led by Kerin O’Keefe (95), who calls the wine “smooth, enveloping and delicious,” highlighting “wild rose, forest berry, tobacco and new leather,” followed by “ripe raspberry, Morello cherry, cake spice and menthol.” Wine Spectator (94) emphasizes drive and structure—“cherry, raspberry, earth and eucalyptus flavors on a broad, dense frame, yet still remains fluid”—with “burly tannins” and a long, spicy finish.

Decanter (94) frames it as “an old-fashioned wine…sumptuously complex,” pointing to “stony salinity,” forest-floor detail, and a “refreshing hint of menthol.” Across reviews, the message is consistent: a dense, traditionally built Bricco Boschis with freshness and depth, best approached with patience (windows largely center on the late 2020s through 2040+).
