Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2023

The 2020 La Mission Haut-Brion is a brilliant effort that exhibits a level of balance and integration that are impressive in such a powerful young Bordeaux. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries and plums...

jebdunnuck.com, March 2023

Lastly, the Grand Vin 2020 Château La Mission Haut-Brion is cut from the same cloth as the La Chapelle, only it brings more of everything. Black raspberries, cassis, ripe cherries, sandalwood, smoked tobacco, and acacia...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2021

(97-99 points) Dark in color, the wine pops with its profile of Cuban cigars, black currants, camphor, spice, tar and smoke. Full-bodied, powerful, long and rich, the wine builds as it intensifies on your palate. There is...

(97-98 points) This really builds on the palate. Loads of blackberry and iodine with asphalt undertones. It’s full-bodied with tannins that steamroll at the end and keep going. Classic blend.

Vinous, February 2023

The 2020 La Mission Haut-Brion has a detailed bouquet with a mixture of red and black fruit, black olive, terracotta and a light wet clayey scent (I sometimes think of a potter's wheel.) It gains complexity in the glass...

Wine Enthusiast,

(95–97 points) Barrel Sample. The wine's roundness comes from the ripe fruit. The warm 2020 vintage has produced a wine that is generous, poised between crisp citrus and hints of yellow fruits. The subtle use of wood...

Decanter, January 2023

Dark chocolate, bramble fruits, some perfumed notes, exotic spices, liquorice, cedar and clove, but floral too. Supple and charming on the palate, not so lively and openly expressive at this point, a bit more knitted...

Created by the noble Lestonnac family in the early years of the 16th century, the vineyard of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion owes its name and its reputation to a missionary order commonly known as the Lazarites, who held the property from 1682 until the French Revolution.

The property is situated just opposite that of Chateau Haut-Brion, in the Pessac-Leognan appellation of the Northern Graves region. The vineyard covers an area of 29 hectares of which 26.60 hectares are planted with 42.7% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10.3% Cabernet Franc with an annual production of 6,000 to 7,000 cases. Over 3 hectares are devoted to white grape varieties (Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc).

In 1983, the Dillon family, already owners of Chateau Haut-Brion, added Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion to Domaine Clarence Dillon’s holdings. The new owners immediately set to work on an ambitious renovation program for the property, giving La Mission a new lease on life.

In the space of twenty-five years, the Dillon family, having fallen under the spell of this enchanting estate, successfully completed their impressive makeover of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion so that for many years to come , it might continue to offer wine connoisseurs the world over a little glimpse of paradise in each bottle.

Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion is definitely bewitching. It possesses a great intensity that delights with complex red fruits and and the signature of its terroir showing notes of Havana cigars, chocolate, and roasted cedarwood. On the palate, the wine is spherical and generous with a long, silky finish.

The 2020 La Mission Haut Brion is a Bordeaux Blend red wine from the esteemed Pessac Leognan sub-region of Bordeaux, France. With its deep red color and elegant label, this wine exudes sophistication and allure. The wine is produced by the renowned La Mission Haut Brion winery, known for crafting exceptional Bordeaux wines.

Upon pouring, the wine reveals a complex bouquet that captivates the senses. Aromas of dark berries, plums, and burning embers mingle with hints of pencil shavings, violets, and smoked black tea. These aromatics create a symphony of scents that entice and intrigue.

On the palate, the 2020 La Mission Haut Brion showcases its true character. Full-bodied and concentrated, it delivers a layered and elegantly muscular profile. The brooding core of fruit is framed by a generous endowment of powdery tannins, which temper the ripeness of the vintage. Despite its 14.7% alcohol content, this wine maintains a classic style, reminiscent of the more restrained 2010 vintage.

Renowned critics have praised this wine, with Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarding it a perfect score of 100 points. They describe it as a brilliant effort that exhibits impressive balance and integration. Decanter also gives it high marks, noting its supple and charming palate, fine tannins, and depth of flavor.

The 2020 La Mission Haut Brion is a wine of exceptional quality that demands attention and admiration. With its longevity and potential for aging, it promises to evolve and develop for decades to come. This wine is a true testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of La Mission Haut Brion, making it a must-have for any wine connoisseur.
