Caparzo's Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vigna la Casa was first produced in 1977. At the time little was known of terroir, and little attention was paid to the concept of zoning, which had only recently been introduced to Montalcino. In this case Caparzo was once again a pace setter, producing a “single vineyard” Brunello from one of the finest vineyards in the appellation.

With Brunello di Montalcino La Casa, Caparzo was also one of the first wineries to introduce barriques to Montalcino, producing a wine with a polite, elegant spirit. Brunello di Montalcino Vigna La Casa is the fruit of a unique terroir, and expresses all of Caparzo's passion and experience in producing excellent wines.

Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino “La Casa” 2021 is a single-vineyard Brunello from Montalcino in Tuscany, bottled under the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. The estate positions “La Casa” (also seen as “Vigna La Casa”) as a site-specific expression from the La Casa vineyard on the Montosoli hill in the northeast of the appellation, an area widely associated with galestro soils and often cited as one of Montalcino’s most prestigious zones.

Historically, this bottling carries added weight at Caparzo. The estate is noted for having produced one of the earliest single-vineyard Brunellos from Montosoli, starting with the 1977 vintage—an early move toward “cru” thinking in Montalcino. Caparzo itself was founded in 1970, and since 1998 has been owned by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, who is credited with replanting vineyards and building a fully underground ageing cellar. The broader estate is substantial—about 200 hectares in total, with roughly 90 hectares of vines, including around 32 hectares dedicated to Brunello.

As a Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, the wine is made from 100% Sangiovese (Sangiovese Grosso) and must meet the appellation’s extended aging requirements (including time in wood and bottle prior to release). While producer technical-sheet specifics for the 2021 could not be verified from the available documents, critical reception is clear and notably strong.

The standout review is from Wine Spectator, which awarded the 2021 “Vigna La Casa” 97 points—an excellent score and one of the most important indicators of this wine’s standing in its vintage set. Wine Spectator also listed a release price of $93. In terms of vintage framing, the Consorzio’s panel characterization of 2021 Brunello as “fragrant,” “defined,” and “vertical” helps set expectations for a style that emphasizes clarity, lift, and structure—attributes that typically suit Montosoli-grown Sangiovese well.
