jebdunnuck.com, June 2022

(JD 93-96 points) Coming from a mix of clay and gravelly soils spread across a 10-hectare vineyard and 40-year-old vines, the 2021 Château Clinet is another brilliant success by Ronan Laborde, who continues to make one...

Decanter, April 2022

An exceptional Clinet in 2021. Richly scented, dark and roguish, a touch of sour cherry and perfume to the nose. Round, supple, generous and vibrant on the palate - this has a lifeforce to it with nuance of red berry...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2022

(JL 93-95 points) Deeply colored, on the nose you initially find chocolate, flowers, mint, black plums, licorice, espresso, black raspberries, nutmeg and black cherries. Medium-bodied, soft, polished, fresh and silky...

jamessuckling.com, May 2022

(JS 93-94 points) Firm, lightly chewy yet creamy tannins. Savory bark and herb notes. Cloves and licorice, too. Medium body with a polished, lengthy and firm finish. Compact.

janeanson.com, April 2022

This is gracefully handled, sculpted black fruits, with blueberry, plum, truffle and cinnamon spice. A touch of bitter black chocolate on the finish, not the exuberant power of most years at Clinet, but a great handling...

Vinous, May 2022

(VN 92-94 points) The 2021 Clinet is gorgeous. Soaring Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics lend presence to a deep, beautifully layered Pomerol that gets better and better with time in the glass. I especially admire the...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2024

(92+ points) The 2021 Clinet opens in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums and licorice mingled with hints of mint and orange zest, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate with a sweet core of fruit that's...

Chateau Clinet lies at the highest point of the Pomerol Plateau on the Gunz gravel terrace, origin of the appellation’s most prestigious crus. It’s a remarkable terroir of old gravel and deep clay over a subsoil of clinker. The vines sink roots 5 metres deep where they are gently warmed by naturally occurring volcanic stones.

The estate has been producing some of the world’s most prestigious wines for centuries. The Belleyme Map, published in 1785, shows the terroir of Chateau Clinet was already exclusively under vine.

Since the 1980s, Jean-Michel Arcaute has managed the vineyard. He has been instrumental in revolutionizing them, replanting with Merlot instead of Cabernet and introducing hand-harvesting, manual selection, and a longer cuvaison.

Merlot accounts for the vast majority of grape varieties (90%) with the remainder being made up of Cabernet-Sauvignon (9%) and Cabernet Franc (1%). The total area under vine is 11.3 hectares and the average age of the vines is 40 years.

The vines are grown with total respect for the environment, giving pride of place to tilling and grassing rather than using chemicals and the human hand over machines.

The vinification process for Chateau Clinet aims to maintain the freshness, finesse and character. Harvesting is always carried out manually, and following meticulous selection, gravity delivers the grapes to the vats. The cellar layout allows good traceability from the vineyard to the end of the aging period. The production of a well-defined parcel can be followed in each vat, then each barrel.

On average, fermentation and maceration lasts for one month, whereupon the wine is transferred into barrels. ‘Free run’ wines are separated from ‘pressed’ wines, and then aged separately. The wine is aged in French oak barrels. around 60 percent new with the remaining being one-year old.

The 2021 Clinet is a remarkable Bordeaux Blend that hails from the prestigious Pomerol region in Bordeaux, France. With its deep and enticing red color, this wine is a true visual delight. The wine is produced by Clinet, a renowned producer known for their commitment to quality and tradition.

On the nose, the 2021 Clinet reveals a captivating bouquet of dark berries, baking chocolate, violets, and spices. The aromas are concentrated and nicely integrated, showcasing the wine's depth and complexity. It is a medium to full-bodied wine that exudes elegance and finesse.

The palate is greeted with a harmonious blend of flavors. The black fruits take center stage, with notes of blueberry, plum, and truffle adding layers of complexity. A touch of cinnamon spice and bitter black chocolate on the finish adds a delightful twist to the wine's profile. The wine is impeccably balanced, with a freshness that keeps the palate alive and a refined, chalky finish that lingers.

The 2021 Clinet is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the latter being the highest proportion of Cabernet in the blend since at least the 1980s. This unique blend contributes to the wine's structure and depth, setting it apart from its peers.

Renowned wine critics have showered the 2021 Clinet with high praise. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded it an impressive 95 points, noting its seamless texture and notable success in the vintage. Other critics have also praised its elegance, depth, and potential for aging.

With its exceptional quality and memorable characteristics, the 2021 Clinet is a wine that demands attention. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, this wine promises to be a memorable addition to any wine lover's collection.
