jamessuckling.com, May 2022

(JS 96-97 points) Firm, structured and pure with a cool and solid core of dark currants, blackberries, tar, pencil lead and bitter chocolate. Hints of tobacco, too. Firm but silky tannins. Very pure, with a long, mineral...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, March 2024

Classy, and classic, elegant, and refined, I love the purity in the red fruits here in nose, and on the palate. Produced from the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in the history of the estate, with just a bit of...

Wine Enthusiast, June 2022

(WE 95–97 points) This is a wine with enormous potential with rich tannins and dark black fruits. At the same time, it has lightness that gives it a lift of fine black currant fruits. It will age, of course. ROGER VOSS

Decanter, April 2022

Beautiful and beguiling nose, perfumed blackcurrants and dark fruits; damsons, plums, raspberries and rose petals. Lovely crunchy fruit, real bite and presence in the mouth. Excellent precision, tannins are succulent and...

Still in barrel at the time of tasting (bottling due in August 2023), showing a seductive smoked cedar, soot and campfire chararater, layers of sculpted dark fruits, and rose petal aromatics, this is well structured...

jebdunnuck.com, April 2024

The 2021 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is one of the top wines of the vintage. It’s based on 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot, harvested from September 21 to October 10, that was vinified in wooden tronconique tanks and...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2022

(WA 94-96 points) A wine that will delight Médoc purists, the 2021 Ducru-Beaucaillou is a blend of fully 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot and checks in at a mere 12.5% alcohol. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of...

(TWI 92-94+ points) The 2021 Ducru-Beaucaillou, 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot, was tasted as a tank sample just before bottling. Deep garnet-purple in color, it opens with notes of crushed blackcurrants, fresh...

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful large stones that characterize its unique Saint-Julien terroir. Unusual for Bordeaux, it is one of the only castles to be built directly above the barrel cellars and one of the few estates producing a ‘Grand Cru Classe’ still inhabited by its owners. The Borie family has owned this estate and has lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.

Rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Ducru sits on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary. Its 75-hectare vineyard is planted 70% to Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% to Merlot with an average vine age of 35 years.

Today, the estate is managed by the company Jean Eugene Borie SA, which is owned by Mrs. Borie, her daughter Sabine Coiffe and her son Bruno-Eugene.

Ducru-Beaucaillou is a fine, elegant, and delicious wine with a long finish - in short, an archetypal Saint-Julien. The grapes are hand-picked, and the sorting process takes place on mobile tables in the vineyard to keep the healthy grapes separate from substandard ones. Fermentation is by traditional techniques and only the best fruit is used to produce the wine.

The 2021 Ducru Beaucaillou is a Bordeaux Blend wine hailing from the renowned Bordeaux region of France. This wine exudes elegance and sophistication, making it a truly remarkable addition to any wine collection.

In the glass, the wine displays a deep, rich red color that hints at the complexity and depth of flavors to come. The aroma is intoxicating, with notes of dark berries, cigar wrapper, violets, loamy soil, and spices. It is a bouquet that promises a sensory journey like no other.

On the palate, the Ducru Beaucaillou is full-bodied and velvety, with layers of flavors that unfold with each sip. The dark berries take center stage, accompanied by hints of tobacco, cedar, and earthy undertones. The wine is beautifully balanced, with lively acidity and powdery tannins that add structure and finesse.

What sets this vintage apart is its composition, with a blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot. This high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon is a departure from previous vintages and adds to the wine's complexity and aging potential. It is a true classic, reminiscent of the iconic 1996 vintage from Ducru Beaucaillou.

Notable wine critics have lauded the 2021 Ducru Beaucaillou, with scores ranging from 96 to 98 points. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate describes it as a wine that will delight Médoc purists, while Jane Anson praises its seductive smoked cedar and layered dark fruits. Jeff Leve considers it a potential candidate for wine of the vintage, and Jeb Dunnuck declares it might be the wine of the vintage. James Suckling commends its firm structure and pure flavors, while Vinous calls it a drop-dead gorgeous wine. Decanter praises its beautiful nose and excellent precision, and Wine Enthusiast predicts its enormous aging potential.

With its exceptional quality and rave reviews, the 2021 Ducru Beaucaillou is a wine that demands attention. It is a wine to be savored and appreciated, as it represents the epitome of Bordeaux winemaking excellence. Whether enjoyed now or aged for years to come, this wine is a true gem that will leave a lasting impression on any wine enthusiast.
