Keever Vineyards’ 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a small-production Napa Valley red from a family-owned estate founded in 1999 in the western hills of Yountville. Consulting winemaker Celia Welch, who has worked with Keever since the inaugural 2002 vintage, helps shape a polished, site-driven style from the estate’s rocky hillside fruit. The 2021 is a Cabernet Sauvignon–dominant blend—98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Malbec—bottled at 14.8% alcohol, with just 485 cases produced.
Critical reception is consistently strong, with the top review coming from Vinous. Antonio Galloni rated it 94 points, calling it “gorgeous” and emphasizing its serious build: “dark and imposing, with tons of structure,” and “packed with black fruit, gravel, incense, scorched earth, licorice and dark spices.” He also characterizes it as a “potent, somber Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon,” signaling a more brooding profile than overt sweetness.
Other excellent reviews reinforce both richness and finesse. Joe Czerwinski of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (93 points) highlights pure Napa ripeness delivered with refinement, writing that it “delivers waves of deep, ripe cassis and black cherry notes” while remaining “silky and elegant, with an exceptionally smooth mouthfeel and lingering finish.” Jeb Dunnuck (93+ points) praises its value and completeness, saying it “certainly competes with wines at twice the price,” with “cassis, darker currants, tobacco, leafy herbs, and a Graves-like scorched earth character,” plus “velvety tannins” and “a great finish.” He expects it to “benefit from 2-3 years in the cellar and evolve for 15+ years.”
James Suckling (92 points) frames it as “ripe and opulent,” pointing to “blackberries, coffee beans, graphite and dried herbs,” with “firmly framed tannins” and a “rounded mouthfeel.” The Wine Palate (93 points) adds detail around its savory edge—“cedar, bay leaves, and black olives”—and calls the finish savory, with “just enough freshness.” Overall, 2021 reads as a structured, dark-fruited Napa Cabernet with polish, depth, and clear aging potential.
