(JS 96-97 points) This is very tannic and powerful with currant and salty undertones. Inky. Blackberry and blackcurrant, too. Full-bodied with lots of power at the end. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 15% cabernet franc and 5%...

Wine Enthusiast, June 2022

(WE 95–97 points) Cabernet Franc has replaced much of the Merlot normally in this wine with Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc equaling 95%. This impressive wine is dominated by structure, by intensity and by elegant tannins...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2024

(96+ points) The 2021 Léoville Las Cases has turned out beautifully in bottle and clearly numbers among the very finest wines of the vintage. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries and cassis mingled with...

Vinous, February 2024

The 2021 Léoville Las-Cases is a wine of elegance and restraint. Yes, I am writing that about a young Las-Cases. Perhaps it is the higher level of Cabernet Franc in this year's blend that adds aromatic presence and gives...

Decanter, April 2022

A brilliant Las Cases in 2021. Quite a savoury nose - dark chocolate covered blackcurrants, like a Black Forest gâteau as well as such signature Cabernet markers - green pepper, black pepper and mint. This is serious, not...

jebdunnuck.com, April 2024

Unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage, the 2021 Château Léoville Las Cases is flat-out brilliant and brings that classic Las Cases regalness and structure. Cassis, graphite, lead pencil shavings, crushed stone...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2022

Dark ruby with hints of purple around the edge, the wine exudes smoke, cedar, tobacco leaf, slate, lead pencil, blackberries, espresso and currants. One of the more powerful wines of the vintage, the wine offers loads of...

janeanson.com, January 2024

Right away on the nose this is chiselled and austere in all the right places, with huge depth and character. Concentrated creme de cassis, with a hidden creamy mid palate that lurks underneath the tannic frame. Plenty of...

Wine Spectator, December 2023

Shows a rare level of finesse, depth and balance in this vintage, with a stream of black currant coulis carried by a pinpoint of acidity, while charcoal and sweet tobacco accents run along the edges. The long, iron-tinged...

One of the oldest Medoc estates, Domaine de Leoville belonged to some of the wealthiest and most influential noble French families before it was acquired by the Las Cases family. Like many properties after the French Revolution, the estate was divided between 1826 and 1840 into the three Leovilles we know today: Leoville-Las Cases, Leoville-Poyferre and Leoville-Barton.

Chateau Leoville-Las Cases was created, thanks to a kind of birthright, from three-fifths of the original estate, including the very heart of the property. The Grand Vin has therefore been sourced from the best part of the original terroir since the 17th century.

Pierre Jean, Adolphe, and Gabriel de Las Cases were successive heirs to the property until 1900, when Theophile Skawinski purchased a share in the estate and became its manager. Leoville-Las Cases has now been managed by the same family since the late 19th century and is today represented by Jean-Hubert Delon, sole owner of the chateau and proprietor of Chateau Potensac in the Medoc and Chateau Nenin in Pomerol.

The Grand Vin is the product of exceptional terroirs from the heart of the original Leoville estate. These are located mainly in the Clos Leoville-Las Cases, which you pass as you leave the village of Saint-Julien for Pauillac. They extend over nearly 60 hectares producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a complex, polished expression and characteristics which are totally unique to the Grand Vin of Las Cases.

The 2021 Leoville-Las Cases is a remarkable Bordeaux Blend that showcases the excellence of the St Julien region in Bordeaux, France. With its deep red color and a complex bouquet of cassis, plums, and dark berries, this wine captivates the senses from the moment it is poured into the glass. The aromas are further enhanced by notes of loamy soil, cigar wrapper, and exotic spices, adding layers of complexity.

On the palate, the 2021 Leoville-Las Cases is full-bodied and multidimensional, with superb amplitude and concentration. The velvety tannins and lively acids provide a harmonious structure that supports the rich fruit flavors. The wine evolves gracefully on the tongue, revealing additional nuances of blackcurrant, blackberry, and bilberry, along with hints of redcurrant and blueberry that reflect the characteristics of the vintage. Savory elements such as cloves, black pepper, slate, and graphite add further depth and complexity.

This wine is a testament to the meticulous winemaking and attention to detail that goes into every bottle from Leoville-Las Cases. It exemplifies how a great terroir, demanding agronomy, and careful craftsmanship can deliver greatness even in a less propitious vintage.

The 2021 Leoville-Las Cases is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, and a mere 5% Merlot. It has an alcohol content of 13.2%. This vintage showcases a higher percentage of Cabernet Franc than ever before, contributing to the wine's distinct character.

Renowned wine critics have praised the 2021 Leoville-Las Cases, with Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarding it an impressive score of 97 points. They describe it as one of the wines of the vintage, comparing it to a hypothetical blend of the exceptional 1999 and 1996 vintages. Other critics also highlight its power, elegance, and potential for aging, making it a strong candidate for further development in the bottle.

Overall, the 2021 Leoville-Las Cases is a wine that embodies the essence of Bordeaux. Its classicism, charm, and impeccable craftsmanship make it a standout among the wines of the region. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future indulgence, this wine is sure to impress even the most discerning wine enthusiasts.
