Poderi Luigi Einaudi’s Barolo “Ludo” 2021 is the estate’s classic, multi-site Barolo: 100% Nebbiolo drawn from younger-vine parcels across key communes, with Decanter noting plots in “Bussia, Terlo, Monvigliero and Cannubi.” It’s positioned as an accessible, regional expression rather than a single-cru statement, but reviewers largely agree it punches above that brief.

Several critics delivered excellent reviews. JamesSuckling.com (94 points) calls it “Precise” and goes further with “Best ever from here,” recommending patience: “Better in 2028.” Wine Spectator (94) likewise frames it as a wine for the long haul, describing “a sleek, elegant red, silky in texture and linear in profile,” with rose, macerated cherry and mineral tones, and suggests cellaring: “Best from 2028 through 2047.” JebDunnuck.com (93) is also emphatic, naming it “one of the overachievers of the vintage for a regional Barolo,” and praising its “lovely clarity of fruit” and “refreshing ripe acidity.”

Aromatically, the notes cluster around florals, red fruit, spice, and classic Barolo savory elements. James Suckling highlights “violets and tar, as well as underbrush,” while Decanter finds a “brambly nose” with “rooibos and baking spice.” Wine Advocate (93) adds detail that builds with air, citing “sweet cherry, cola, blue flower and spicy rosemary essence,” and notes the wine’s “light and delicate” look despite a “dark ruby shine.”

On the palate, the common thread is midweight structure with firm, fine tannins. Decanter calls it “midweight and streamlined but still textured,” with “elegant tannins…light and crisp.” Wine Advocate points out “young tannins” that “could surely benefit from more years of bottle age,” while Dunnuck projects it will “age with ease over the next 12–15 years.”

Production is substantial—Wine Advocate reports “54,335 bottles”—yet the 2021 Ludo is widely described as pure, balanced, and built to improve with time.
