Morlet Family Vineyards’ 2021 “Mon Chevalier” is an estate, single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon–based blend from Knights Valley, Sonoma County. The fruit comes from the Mon Chevalier vineyard, a 2.4-hectare hillside site rooted in “rocky loam and volcanic ash-red soils,” rising to about 182 metres, according to Decanter. The wine’s name is personal—Decanter notes that Mon Chevalier refers to Luc and Judy Morlet’s son, Paul, their “Knight.”

The blend is consistently reported as 90% Cabernet Sauvignon with 5% Cabernet Franc plus small portions of Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot (Decanter; Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate; The Wine Independent). Decanter adds key cellar details: native-yeast fermentation in stainless steel tanks and puncheons, then 16 months in French oak with “85% new French oak,” bottled “unfined and unfiltered.”

Critics agree on a ripe, dark-fruited core with a distinctly savory, mineral edge. Decanter describes “very pure dark fruits,” “garrigue notes,” and “lifted dusty minerals, like brown or red scorched earth,” finishing with “super fine, super silky tannins” and “sweet brown Indian spices.” Jeb Dunnuck calls it “a beautiful, full-bodied, concentrated effort” with blackberries and currants alongside “baking chocolate, graphite, and savory herbs,” plus “outstanding length,” recommending patience: “Give it 2–4 years.” Joe Czerwinski at Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate highlights “gentle herbal shadings” over black cherries, cassis, and blackberries, finishing “long and intense yet refined.”

Several reviews are outright excellent. Vinous’ Antonio Galloni rates it 96 and calls it “one of the finest editions in recent memory,” citing “tons of savory/mineral Knights Valley notes.” Decanter (96) finds it “super expressive and polished,” while The Wine Independent (96) emphasizes its “tightly wound” structure and “energetic lift.”

James Suckling (94) frames it as “mouth-filling” and “suave,” with “moderate tannins” around iron, graphite, and blueberry, and advises, “Drink now or hold.” Overall, it’s a structured, age-worthy Knights Valley Cabernet with ripe fruit, polished tannins, and site-driven savory complexity.
