Pora is a southwest-facing hillside site near the Tanaro River, a setting often associated with a more open, smoothly textured expression of Barbaresco. This bottling sits within Produttori’s traditional Riserva program, a benchmark series from a cooperative founded in 1958 that unites dozens of local grower families.

Critics were notably consistent on the wine’s quality, with several excellent mid-90s scores. Kerin O’Keefe gave the highest praise at 96 points, calling it “a stunning, generous wine,” highlighting “succulent raspberry, Morello cherry, star anise and blood orange,” and adding that while it’s “already immensely enjoyable,” it “has a long life ahead.” Antonio Galloni (Vinous) also scored it 95, describing it as “a fabulous introduction to the single-vineyard wines in this range,” with “solid core of fruit and exceptional balance,” and layers of “wild cherry fruit, spice, new leather and blood orange.”

JamesSuckling.com rated it 95 as well, with Senior Editor Aldo Fiordelli emphasizing a “classic and intense yet fresh” profile, noting “sweet-violet and cherry-pit aromas,” plus a “slightly mineral and savory” feel and “graceful balsamic depth.” He frames it as “approachable with velvety tannins” and a “very long finish.”

Wine Spectator (95 points) captures the arc many Nebbiolo lovers expect: “round and open” at first, then “dense, chalky tannins emerge,” concluding that it “almost feels approachable now yet should develop well over time,” recommending it “Best from 2028 through 2047.”

Jeb Dunnuck (95+) adds a practical detail—“Roughly 20,000 bottles were produced”—and calls it “one of the more immediate wines of the range,” while noting the “oak will need time to fully integrate on the nose.” Overall, the 2021 Pora reads as a structured, clearly fragrant Riserva that is already giving pleasure, but built for long aging.
