Bovio’s Barolo Parussi 2022 comes from the Parussi cru in Castiglione Falletto, a site the fourth-generation Bovio family has added to its Barolo lineup alongside its long-established La Morra holdings. The estate, run by Alessandra Bovio and Marco Boschiazzo with winemaker Matteo Franchi, is small by regional standards, producing around 65,000 bottles from eight hectares. In the cellar, Bovio’s general approach is traditional-leaning: élevage in large Slavonian and French oak casks, followed by a six-month rest in cement before bottling.

The 2022 growing season in Piedmont was marked by drought and smaller crops, and the best wines are often described as more open and approachable in their youth while still carrying Barolo structure. Castiglione Falletto, in particular, has been noted as a commune that delivered balanced results in the heat.

Professional reviews for this wine are notably strong, led by an excellent 96-point score from James Suckling. Senior Editor Aldo Fiordelli highlights a profile where “graphite dominates,” backed by “dried cherries, licorice, embers, dried flowers and subtle red fruit,” calling it “very spicy” and ultimately “flavorful and harmonious,” with “elegant tannins” and “tense acidity.” Suckling suggests patience: “Try from 2027.”

Jeb Dunnuck also rates it highly at 94 points, emphasizing both perfume and detail. He describes a “jeweled ruby color” and “expressive aromatics of black raspberries, cherries, licorice, and sweet rose perfume.” On the palate, Dunnuck finds it “medium-bodied yet saturating,” with “sweet tannins, balanced acidity, and good length,” concluding, “This is generous without losing transparency,” and giving a wide drinking window of 2026–2040.

Taken together, the reviews point to a Parussi that marries Castiglione Falletto tension with accessible fruit and polished tannins—built for cellaring, but not forbiddingly austere.
