Sweet juicy lemons, white peach, spice, mango, and honeysuckle on the nose get this started. But it is on the palate, with its sweet citrus, orange pith, and touch of honey where the wine shows its best. The wine blends...

This plump white offers lively energy encased in a mix of persimmon, white peach, lemon curd and brioche notes, which are offset nicely by a subtle zing of quinine. Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2026. - JM

This Sauternes estate originally took the name Suduiraut in 1580, upon the marriage of Nicole d’Allard to Leonard de Suduiraut. After being plundered and burned down during the Fronde insurrection, in the 17th century it was rebuilt and renamed Cru du Roy by a nephew of the Suduiraut family, who planted magnificent formal gardens designed by Le Notre, King Louis XIV’s renowned gardener. The estate was designated Premier Cru status in the 1855 Classification.

AXA Millesimes acquired Suduiraut in 1992 with the aim of preserving and perpetuating the estate’s remarkable tradition of vineyard management and winemaking. 92 hectares of vineyard are planted in sandy, gravelly soil superbly suited to Semillon and Sauvignon grapes. Semillon, which represents 90% of the Suduiraut vineyard’s vine population, is the preferred variety for Sauternes. Its very thin skin is particularly sensitive to the Botrytis Cinerea that gives rise to noble rot, which in turn results in a wine which is concentrated both in sweetness and aroma. The blend is then rounded off with the addition of about 10% Sauvignon Blanc.

The vines’ age (a majority of them are over 30 years old) is a guarantee of exceptional quality, giving well-nourished and more concentrated grapes.

The 2022 Chateau Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes Grand Vin Blanc Sec is a remarkable white wine that embodies the elegance and complexity of Bordeaux Blanc. With a beautiful golden hue, this wine is visually enticing and promises a sensory journey like no other.

On the nose, the wine exudes intense aromas of sweet juicy lemons, white peach, spice, mango, and honeysuckle. These vibrant scents create an inviting and refreshing bouquet that immediately captivates the senses. But it is on the palate where this wine truly shines. The sweet citrus flavors, accompanied by notes of orange pith and a touch of honey, create a harmonious and luscious taste profile. The wine showcases its best qualities on the palate, delivering a delightful and well-balanced experience.

Crafted from a blend of 55% Semillon and 45% Sauvignon Blanc, this wine demonstrates the artistry and skill of Chateau Suduiraut. The combination of these varietals results in a wine that is both expressive and nuanced. The Semillon contributes depth and richness, while the Sauvignon Blanc brings vibrancy and freshness to the blend.

Renowned wine critic Jeb Dunnuck scored this wine an impressive 97 points, describing it as a "remarkable white in the vintage." He praises its complex bouquet of bright citrus, caramelized limes, tart melon, and minty herbs. Dunnuck also highlights the medium to full-bodied richness, layered mouthfeel, and great finish of this wine.

Other critics, such as James Suckling and Vinous, also speak highly of this wine, awarding it scores of 95 and 94 points respectively. Suckling describes it as a "classic Sauternes" with dried peaches, lemon zest, and crushed stone character. Vinous praises its lovely bouquet with orchard fruit, honeysuckle, and melted wax aromas, as well as its well-balanced palate with good depth and fine acidity.

The 2022 Chateau Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes Grand Vin Blanc Sec is a wine that demands attention and admiration. It is a testament to the expertise and passion of Chateau Suduiraut, and a true gem from the Bordeaux region. This wine is best enjoyed from 2023 to 2029, allowing it to further develop and reveal its full potential. Whether paired with a decadent seafood dish or enjoyed on its own, this wine is sure to impress even the most discerning wine connoisseur.
