The 2022 Château Cheval Blanc is based on 53% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, brought up all in new oak, and this is the second year where no Petite Cheval was produced. (2015 was the last.) Its...

Mind-bowing in every sense of the word, this has everything you could ask for in a wine, and more! The perfume is striking with its display of flowers, black cherries, saffron, black raspberries, plums, smoke, licorice...

The Wine Independent, June 2025

There was no Petit Cheval in this vintage, the majority of the crop going into Cheval Blanc, taking 78% of the harvest, while 22% was sold as bulk wine (which was almost all press wine which is never included in the blend...

Extremely perfumed, showing red roses and violets as well as hints of flower stems. A touch of sandalwood. This turns to blue fruits with such pure grape character, like smelling must. Savory, light brine and black...

Expressive aromatic profile, generous structure. The Cabernet Franc pulls its weight in terms of tension and freshness, infusing the luscious fruits with mint, roses and peony. Showcasing the opulent side of Cheval Blanc...

Vinous, January 2025

The 2022 Cheval Blanc is quite unusual in that it was made from 46 out of the 47 parcels that make up the estate, the highest proportion of blocks ever used in the Grand Vin. There is also no Petit Cheval. One block was...

Wine Enthusiast, November 2023

(WE 97-99 points) The wine is very fine, elegant and impressive. It has depth and concentration, being very floral and offering great black fruits alongside the firm tannins. There is a lovely line of succulent fruit and...

Wine Spectator, December 2024

Loganberry, boysenberry and blackberry compote notes give the core an almost outsized feel, but there's restraint and focus, as touches of warm loam, licorice root and smoldering tobacco keep this well-grounded. There's...

Extremely aromatic - floral and perfumed with rich dark black fruits, liquorice, crayon, blueberries, and purple flowers, lifted by hints of mint. Fresh and vibrant from the start, this has a defined core with tension and...

Formerly known as vin de Figeac, this wine was first sold under the name Cheval Blanc in 1852. The first gold medal won by Cheval Blanc came at the 1878 Universal Exhibition in Paris and that distinction appears on the label.

Each vineyard plot is vinified separately. At the start of fermentation, the juice is gently pumped over three times daily. As fermentation proceeds, pump-over frequency decreases and is eventually stopped when the desired level of extraction has been reached.

The young wine is aged 16 to 18 months in new French oak barrels. Six to seven different coopers are used to ensure complexity and harmony. During this period, the wine is racked by hand five to seven times. Blending takes place after the first three months.

The 2022 Cheval Blanc is a Bordeaux blend that has garnered high praise and attention from wine critics, securing its place as one of the standout wines of the vintage. This red wine, produced in the renowned Saint Emilion region of Bordeaux, France, is composed of 53% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc, and a touch of 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is bottled with a cork closure and has an alcohol content of 13.0%.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate heralds the wine as "one of the stars of the vintage," highlighting its "medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered" texture with "beautifully refined tannins" and a "long, saline, pungently perfumed finish" (William Kelley). James Suckling awarded it a perfect score, noting the wine's "brightness and weightlessness," describing it as "full-bodied yet tight and polished" with an "endless and poised" finish.

Jeb Dunnuck praises the wine's "deep, concentrated, structured" nature, appreciating its "beautiful cassis, violets, flowers, and chocolate-driven aromatics." The wine's "stacked mid-palate and a great finish" signal its potential for aging. Jane Anson also gave a perfect score, emphasizing the wine's "explosive nose" and "exuberance," calling it a "great wine from director Pierre Olivier Clouet and the team."

Vinous and Decanter both awarded the wine 100 points, with Vinous describing it as "deep, seamless and striking in its beauty" and Decanter noting its "elegance, purity and quiet confidence." The Wine Enthusiast echoed these sentiments with a near-perfect score, pointing out its "depth and concentration" and the "lovely line of succulent fruit and acidity."

Overall, the 2022 Cheval Blanc is celebrated for its complexity, balance, and potential for long-term aging, making it a remarkable achievement in the world of fine wine.
