jebdunnuck.com, February 2025

A sensational Pauillac as well as the finest wine from this château since the 2009 (although the 2010 might have something to say about that), the 2022 Château Pontet-Canet sports a deep purple hue as well as a heavenly...

The concentration of dried herbs such as thyme, sage and mint with blackcurrants and Spanish cedar is mesmerizing. Full-bodied with a dense and intense palate, this has creamy, crunchy tannins and a long and flavorful...

Wine Enthusiast, December 2023

97-99 barrel sample. Great waves of spice and ripe tannins have been smoothed by the partial aging in amphoras. The wine is full of ripe black fruits with a sense of richness as well as balance. Obviously with great aging...

Decanter, January 2025

Dark and ripe on the nose, with deep blackcurrant, cocoa powder, and espresso notes alongside fragrant dried herbs, adding a savoury elegance. The palate is clean and crisp, offering a streamlined weight and a lovely bite...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, March 2025

Deep purple with a blue hue in color, the wine is almost opaque in color. Cassis, flowers, plums, licorice, and tobacco leaf aromas adorn the perfume. It is already clear that with this wine, it is the purity in the fruit...

Vinous, January 2025

The 2022 Pontet-Canet is a super-refined wine from the Tesseron family. It is perhaps a touch less opulent than in years past, but in exchange, it boasts more energy, focus and cut, all qualities that are so welcome here...

janeanson.com, December 2024

Deep plum colour, iodine on the nose, this is gorgeously nuanced, does not give the impression of an extremely hot dry vintage, and retains energy. Perhaps not quite the depth through the mid palate of the very best...

The Wine Independent, June 2025

The blend is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 4% each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and the élevage was very typical, with 50% new oak, 35% tiny amphorae and 15% used oak. The yield was “not that high” but as...

Wine Spectator, January 2025

Alluring and smoldering, with dark violet, iris and anise notes infusing the core of plum sauce and dark currant preserves. A bolt of cast iron runs underneath, and there's a late tug of freshly tilled humus on the...

Chateau Pontet-Canet is bright and brilliant with full-bodied fruit, yet finesse, in the mouth. It expresses energy, tension and intensity.

The fruit is fermented with native yeast in semi-conical concrete tanks that facilitate punch-downs. The wine then macerates for an additional four weeks before being removed from the pomace for maturation. One-third of the wine is aged in large, concrete amphorae, designed expressly for Pontet-Canet. The rest ages in French oak barrels.

The 2022 Pontet-Canet is a Bordeaux blend from the Pauillac region of Bordeaux, France. The wine is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot, with an alcohol content of 14.5%. It is aged in a combination of 50% new French oak, 35% amphora, and 15% used barrels.

The wine has received high praise from several critics, with James Suckling awarding it a perfect score of 100 points. He describes it as having "so much energy and brightness," noting the "superb fruit and transparency" and "super fine texture." Suckling also highlights its "freshness of the seed" and the presence of "cassis, tobacco, and cigar box" in the flavor profile.

Jeb Dunnuck also provided an excellent review, scoring it 99 points and calling it "brilliant" and among "the crème de la crème from the Médoc." He notes the wine's "incredibly pure bouquet of cassis, graphite, lead pencil, and scorched earth," praising its "deep, layered mid-palate, building tannins, and a great finish."

Jeff Leve, who scored the wine 98 points, emphasizes the "purity in the fruit" and the harmonious blend of "concentration with elegance, power with purity." He also notes the absence of any sensation of heat or over-ripeness, stating that the wine is "lush, as well as refined."

Jane Anson, who gave the wine 94 points, describes its "chewy tannins" and the array of flavors including "cassis, blueberry, fresh fig fruits, rosemary, sage, and dried herbs." She also highlights the wine's "tight tannic structure" and the use of clay as a sunscreen on the grapes during harvest.

Vinous, scoring the wine 97 points, remarks on its "restraint and understatement," noting a "feeling of tension and precision" that is unexpected for this typically more opulent wine. Antonio Galloni admires its "clean mineral notes" and "vibrancy."

Other notable reviews include Wine Enthusiast, which scored it 98 points, and The Wine Independent, which awarded it 99 points, both praising the wine's richness, balance, and aging potential.

In summary, the 2022 Pontet-Canet is a highly acclaimed Bordeaux blend, celebrated for its purity, complexity, and aging potential. Its combination of traditional and innovative aging techniques contributes to its unique and refined character.
