(94-96 points) Another great wine from this château, the 2022 Château Tour Saint Christophe checks in as 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc brought up in 25% new French oak. It has a great nose of red plums, cassis, chalky...

Gorgeously scented on the nose, smooth, round and focused with purity and persistence. Tannins are so fine, really sculpting this wine, with a clear bite and almost strict tang to the overall structure giving a sense of...

Inky damson, beautiful texture and glass staining colour. Smoky reduction on the nose (they do a late malolactic because it begins naturally, so this is not unusual). It clears to reveal intense dark berry fruit...

Chateau Tour Saint Christophe is a Bordeaux wine estate located in the Saint Emilion Grand Cru appellation at the border between the villages of Saint-Emilion and Saint Christophe des Bardes. The property overlooks beautiful centuries-old dry stone terraces on a clay-limestone subsoil. The shape of the property is a unique feature among the vineyards of Saint-Emilion, partly planted on narrow terraces where the vineyard is tended in tight five-row groups. This micro-landscape extends onto the slope overlooking the St Laurent valley.

In order to preserve the estate’s rich heritage, owner Peter Kwok undertook a recent restoration of the Chateau and revived the vineyard terraces with the reconstruction of dry stone walls as it had been built in the 18th century. About 1.5 km of dry-stone terraces have been repaired by hand, a two-year process, preserving their unique appearance.

The vineyard has an ideal south-southwest exposure and perfect natural drainage conditions. It is this secret alchemy which contributes to the quality of their terroir. The vines, 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, have an average age of thirty years.

When Peter Kwok purchased Chateau Tourans in 2015, its vines were added to Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, bringing the estate’s vineyard surface up to 20 hectares.

Chateau Tour Saint Christophe is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grown on clay and limestone soil. The sorted grapes are put directly into concrete tanks or Bordeaux barrels (about 25% of the harvest). This follows the method of Vinification Intégrale, particularly well-suited for the Chateau Tour Saint Christophe terroir.

The wine is aged in the same barrels for 15-18 months at constant temperature in the underground cellar. Depending on the vintage, the proportion of new oak varies from 30% to 40% with the balance using 1- and 2-year old barrels.

The 2022 Tour Saint Christophe is a remarkable Bordeaux Blend that hails from the prestigious Saint Emilion region in Bordeaux, France. With its deep purple hue, this wine immediately catches the eye and captivates the senses. On the nose, it bursts with enticing aromas of blackberries, black cherries, licorice, flowers, wet earth, and blue fruit. These complex aromas create a symphony of scents that invite you to delve deeper into the wine.

Upon tasting, the richness and lushness of the palate are immediately apparent. Layers of chalk, black cherries, chocolate, espresso, and 5 spice unfold, creating a luxurious and multi-dimensional flavor profile. The wine is crafted from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, which contributes to its depth and complexity. The finish is creamy, vibrant, and loaded with sweet, ripe, dark red fruits that linger on the palate.

Renowned wine experts have recognized the excellence of the 2022 Tour Saint Christophe. Jeff Leve awarded it an impressive score of 97 points, praising its rich flavors and layered complexity. Jeb Dunnuck also lauds the wine, awarding it 96 points and highlighting its impeccable balance and pure, graceful mouthfeel. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gives it 93 points, noting its enveloping texture, fleshy core of fruit, and powdery tannins. James Suckling's score of 96 points is testament to the wine's exceptional qualities, including its firm framing of fruit, fine tannins, and electric acidity.

The 2022 Tour Saint Christophe is a wine that promises years of enjoyment. It has a suggested drinking window from 2026 to 2048, allowing for further development and evolution in the bottle. This wine is a true gem from the Bordeaux region, and it is sure to impress even the most discerning wine enthusiasts with its complexity, balance, and elegance.
