TheWineCellarInsider.com, March 2025

Powerful, concentrated, full-bodied, intense, and opulent, the wine fills and coats your palate with layers of opulent, chocolate-coated, black cherries, plums, and blue fruits. Hedonistic in character, you also enjoy...

jamessuckling.com, January 2025

Pristine fruit of strawberries and cherries with some spices such as nutmeg. Plenty of sandalwood too. Medium- to full-bodied, this has very tight tannins in the finish that hold the whole thing together. Wow at the end!...

jebdunnuck.com, February 2025

(98+ points) A big, muscular 2022 (which is what this château tends to produce), the 2022 Château Trotanoy is based on 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon that comes from an incredible terroir on the upper plateau in...

Vinous, January 2025

The 2022 Trotanoy is seriously beautiful. Intensely aromatic and also vertical in build, the 2022 speaks to refinement more than anything else. Dark-toned fruit, gravel, incense, licorice, chocolate, lavender and dried...

Decanter, January 2025

This has come through on its En Primeur promise of power, seduction and excitement. While it's still a little compact and tense, the detail has become more focussed and each element is presented with so much finesse. A...

Wine Enthusiast, November 2023

(WE 95-97 points) Almost entirely Merlot, this wine is powerful and solid. It is full of ripe black fruits and offers a fine texture that includes succulent acidity. The wine is full of great promise. — Roger Voss

Wine Spectator, December 2024

There's some bass thumping in the form of black currant and blackberry reduction notes coiled tightly within a cast iron frame. Sweet tobacco, alder and chestnut accents create a seductive backdrop on the finish, which is...

janeanson.com, January 2025

The character of the 2022 vintage gives Trotanoy a sweet damson edge that is fairly unusual, an approachability and sweetness to its tannic frame that I was unsure about at En Primeur but am seduced by now it's in bottle...

The Wine Independent, June 2025

This is 96% Merlot and just 4% Cabernet Franc, the Moueix family never having leaned into Cabernet Franc in the way much of the right bank has. Absolutely classic Trotanoy on the nose of the 2022 vintage, all dark gravel...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2025

The 2022 Trotanoy is very ripe and muscular, offering up aromas of sweet cassis, dark chocolate, baked plums and creamy new oak, followed by a full-bodied, firm and tannic palate, concluding with a heady, raisin-inflected...

Trotanoy is vinified in small concrete vats and the young wine matures in 50% new oak barrels for about 18 months. When ready, this wine shows enormous complexity and concentration. It can easily be kept 25 years or more in great vintages.

The 2022 Trotanoy is a Bordeaux blend from the Pomerol sub-region of Bordeaux, France. Produced by Trotanoy, this red wine is composed of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, closed with a cork. The 2022 vintage has received high praise from various esteemed wine critics, highlighting its complexity, power, and potential for aging.

Jeff Leve from TheWineCellarInsider.com awarded the wine an impressive 99 points, describing it as a sensory delight with “lilacs, roses, citrus peel, Asian spice, smoke, espresso, chocolate, and red pit fruits.” He emphasized its balance of “silk, velvet, lift, and opulence,” and noted that its “seamless endnotes hold your focus for at least 60 seconds.” Leve also mentioned its 14.7% alcohol content and a pH of 3.9, with a relatively low yield of 22 hectoliters per hectare, harvested from September 1 to 19.

Jeb Dunnuck of jebdunnuck.com rated it 98 points, praising its “smoked earth, leather, graphite, and tobacco” aromas, alongside “ripe red and black fruits.” He called it a “rich, structured, powerful Pomerol” with a “stacked mid-palate, building tannins, and a great, great finish.”

James Suckling gave the wine a perfect score of 100 points, highlighting its “floral and tensioned” character with “incredible brightness.” He described it as “dreamy and energetic with purity and serenity,” a “full-bodied yet structured and polished” blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

William Kelley from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, who gave it 95 points, noted its “rich aromas of blackberries, cherries, licorice, and sweet spices,” describing it as “the most muscular, structured, robust wine in the Mouiex portfolio.”

Jane Anson, Vinous, and Decanter also rated the wine highly, with scores of 97, 98, and 97 points, respectively. Anson described it as a “masterclass in restrained structure and slow build,” while Vinous praised its “cathedral-like structure” and Decanter called it “a monumental wine” with “remarkable power and intensity.”

In summary, the 2022 Trotanoy is a highly acclaimed wine, praised for its complex aromas, robust structure, and exceptional aging potential. It is a wine that promises to develop beautifully over the coming decades.
