jebdunnuck.com, May 2023

(96-98 points) Smoked earth, leather, graphite, and tobacco, as well as a massive amount of ripe red and black fruits, emerge from the 2022 Château Trotanoy, a rich, structured, powerful Pomerol with a stacked mid-palate...

The Wine Independent, May 2023

(96 - 98 + points) A blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Trotanoy is deep garnet-purple in color. It is typically broody to start off with reluctant notions of tar, chargrill, and wild sage eventually...
VN 98

Vinous, May 2023

(VN 96-98 points) The 2022 Trotanoy was picked 1-19 September. Clean and precise on the nose, yet obdurate (no surprise) and demanding that you will have to wait at least a decade. This is a Trotanoy that has resolved to...

Decanter, April 2023

A monumental wine from the Moueix stable this year giving remarkable power and intensity, and a certain headiness that only Pomerol can do, but with a stylish presentation that offers grip and bite. Bold and intense...

janeanson.com, April 2023

A masterclass in restrained structure and slow build. Never has the concentrated blue and black fruit and cooling mint balm of Trotanoy been more welcome. Think careful layers of cassis, creme de cassis, liqourice, slate...

Wine Enthusiast, November 2023

(WE 95-97 points) Almost entirely Merlot, this wine is powerful and solid. It is full of ripe black fruits and offers a fine texture that includes succulent acidity. The wine is full of great promise. — Roger Voss

Pomerol’s famous Trotanoy, whose soil was too hard to work and thus called “trop anoi” (too annoying) in medieval French, is located on one of the most beautiful parts of the Pomerol plateau. The fascinating soil diversity—half gravel mixed with clay and half deep black clay —with the presence of “machefer” or iron pan in the subsoil, brings power, depth and complexity to the wine.

Chateau Trotanoy’s vineyard was one of the few not to freeze in 1956 and today, it is comprised of very old vines, the average being close to 35 years. 90% of the vines are Merlot, the rest Cabernet Franc.

Trotanoy was acquired by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix, who own many other properties in both Pomerol and Saint-Emilion, including Magdelaine, Belair-Monange, La Fleur-Petrus, Lafleur-Gazin, Lagrange, Latour a Pomerol, and Hosanna.

Trotanoy is vinified in small concrete vats and the young wine matures in 50% new oak barrels for about 18 months. When ready, this wine shows enormous complexity and concentration. It can easily be kept 25 years or more in great vintages.

The 2022 Trotanoy Bordeaux Blend from France's illustrious Pomerol region is a tour de force in winemaking. This sumptuous red wine, a harmonious blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, boasts a seductive bouquet of lilacs, roses, citrus peel, Asian spice, smoke, espresso, chocolate, and red pit fruits that are nothing short of intoxicating.

On the palate, this Trotanoy offering is a symphony of silk, velvet, and opulence, with the fruits delivering purity, persistence, and vibrancy. The mid-palate and finish are drenched in velvet, and the wine is deeply concentrated and intense, yet light on its feet, making it utterly effortless to drink. The seamless endnotes captivate your attention for at least 60 seconds, a testament to the wine's superior quality and craftsmanship.

This 2022 Trotanoy also intrigues with its intoxicating blend of smoked earth, leather, graphite, and tobacco, as well as a massive amount of ripe red and black fruits. It's a rich, structured, and powerful Pomerol with a stacked mid-palate, building tannins, and a great, great finish.

The wine is full-bodied, robust, and broad-shouldered, projecting a muscular and structured persona that demands respect. It offers up rich aromas of blackberries, cherries, licorice, and sweet spices. It's a wine that requires patience to fully appreciate its depth and complexity.

In the mouth, the 2022 Trotanoy exudes a floral and tension-filled precision that gives it incredible brightness. It's dreamy and energetic with purity and serenity. Full-bodied yet structured and polished, this dynamic young wine is a masterclass in restrained structure and slow build. The concentrated blue and black fruit, cooling mint balm, cassis, creme de cassis, liquorice, slate, chocolate block, rose petals, turmeric, and graphite create a memorable tasting experience.

With its cathedral-like structure, judicious sprinkling of black pepper, and uncompromising yet detailed finish, this wine is truly immense in the best possible way. It's a monumental wine that offers power and intensity, along with a certain headiness that only Pomerol can deliver. Bold, intense, and plush, it's a serious, thrilling, and compact wine that demands attention and time to fully unfold.
