The 2023 Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship wine from the historic Eisele Vineyard in Calistoga, Napa Valley, a site now owned by the Pinault family’s Artémis Domaines. The vineyard’s alluvial volcanic soils at the base of the Palisades are known for naturally limiting vigor and helping deliver concentration without pushing the wine into an overly heavy style. In 2023, harvest ran from October 6–18, and the finished wine was aged for 21 months in 100% new oak—“54% new French barrels and 46% new Austrian and French foudres,” according to Jeb Dunnuck.

This is, by any professional measure, a standout release with multiple top-tier reviews. Jeb Dunnuck awarded a perfect 100 points, calling it “incredibly pure, seamless, and elegant,” with “classic Eisele red and black currants, new leather, dried flowers, spice, and loamy earth,” and praising its “refined, seamless tannins” and “flawless balance.” Dunnuck went further, labeling it a “world-class, First Growth-like effort,” and suggesting patience: “Drink 2035–2075.”

The Wine Palate also gave 100 points, describing a wine that initially “needs a little coaxing,” then opens to “warm cassis, wild blueberries, and juicy blackberries,” layered with “menthol, licorice, tar, and forest floor” and “a waft of black truffles.” Structurally, they emphasize “firm yet velvety tannins,” “amazing tension,” and a finish marked by “a lingering ferrous note.”
