Rombauer Vineyards’ 2024 Carneros Chardonnay is a classic expression of the house style from Los Carneros, the cool, bay-influenced district at the southern end of Napa and Sonoma. Rombauer first made Chardonnay in 1982 and began focusing on Carneros fruit in 1990, a long-running commitment that has helped define the winery’s reputation for consistent, fruit-forward California Chardonnay.

The winery frames the 2024 as a full-bodied, oak-shaped white built around ripe fruit and a bright spine of acidity. On the aromatic side, Rombauer highlights “yellow peach and mango,” with “vanilla and buttery nuances,” and says the wine finishes with “mouthwatering acidity” (Rombauer Vineyards). Retail tasting notes echo that same profile, describing “enticing aromas” and a palate marked by “mouthwatering acidity” alongside the winery’s familiar ripe-fruit richness (Binny’s).

One of the more concrete technical snapshots comes via Decanter’s reporting (as carried by Binny’s): the 2024 was made with a low-sulfite approach—“no sulfur added until… bottling”—and spent “nine months in” a mix of French and American oak, with about “33% new” barrels (Decanter, Jonathan Cristaldi). Alcohol is listed around 14.6% ABV (WHWC).

In terms of critical reception, the standout is an excellent 93-point score from Decanter. Cristaldi characterizes the wine as “bright and tightly coiled” in its youth, suggesting it will loosen with a bit of bottle time into the “lush, tropical fruit and toasty oak” profile that Rombauer fans expect (Decanter, Jonathan Cristaldi). That comment is useful context for drinkers: early bottles may show more restraint than the label’s famously opulent reputation, but the intent—and the track record—is clearly for generous fruit, creamy oak, and balancing freshness.
