(99-100 points) The pureness of fruit is exceptional, with a long and linear palate of wonderfully curated raspberry, cherry and blueberry aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied. You almost don’t see the tannins, but you know they are there. So silky and endless. It has the core of fruit of the best of the vintage. 50% merlot and 50% cabernet franc.

(98 - 100 points) Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2025 Angélus cascades out of the glass with flowing scents of fresh blackberries, red currant preserves, and lilacs, giving way to fragrant suggestions of rose bud tea, crushed rocks, garrigue, and forest floor. The medium- to full-bodied palate is a vortex of energy, delivering swirling black, red, and blue fruit notes with floral accents, supported by super-fine-grained tannins and a lively line of freshness, finishing very long with lots of mineral and chalky sparks. (97-99 points) (Saint-Émilion; 50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Franc; a final yield of 30 hl/ha; pH 3.50; 14% ABV; tasted at the property with Stephanie de Boüard-Rivoal and Benjamin Laforêt). It's the salinity here and the rocky minerality that I hone in on first. Then the Cabernet Franc starts to build, rising up through the space afforded to it by the Merlot frame. This is mirrored on the palate. I love this in the mouth, with that vivid and dynamic cedar-enrobed Bouchet (with its notes of blueberry, cassis and a lovely slightly green herbal element) swirling up through the Merlot. So juicy, so lithe, so plump and so plush in its crunchy fruit personality, the details picked out by the pixelating limestone tannins. This is almost pointilist in its extremely articulate expression of great terroir. Very dynamic and energising! Superb. A truly great vintage of Angélus. 97-99

Dark ruby-garnet, opaque core, violet highlights, delicate lightening at the rim. Delicate red berry notes, a hint of cranberries, fresh red cherry fruit, a pleasant hint of herbal spice, subtle notes of fine wood. Juicy, elegant, red cherries again, fine, mature tannins, finely structured, salty finish, mineral and long-lasting, heart cherries on the finish, definite aging potential, very elegant, approachable style.

(96-98 points) Cassis, graphite, violets, iris, and a wonderful sense of minerality all define the 2025 Château Angélus, another ultra-classic Saint-Emilion from this address. It's a 50/50 blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, with the Merlot raised in 60% new oak and 40% once-used oak and the Cabernet Franc split between 50% new oak and 50% foudre. Checking in at 14% alcohol with a pH of 3.6, it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with incredible purity, classy background oak, integrated acidity, and a great finish.

(96-98 points) A blend of equal parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot, the 2025 Angélus is already beautifully harmonious, even at this early stage. Unfurling in the glass with notes of sweet dark berries and plums mingled with notions of violets, licorice and spices, it's medium- to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with ripe tannins, lively acids and a long, perfumed finish. Much like its 2022 predecessor, the 2025 underlines that this estate's shift toward greater purity and subtler élevage choices can be sustained even in historically warm years.

(96-98 points) adore the nose here, which has some of the depth and purity of high-quality Cabernet Franc, with piles of floral Cabernet perfume, all roses and violets, partnered with concentrated but barely sweet red plum from the Merlot, before little dark notes of currant and dried fruits take us back to the Cabernet Franc. There is harmony and precision on the palate, with a very integrated core of perfumed berry and rose notes, over dried currants and black cherry, set over a rich grain of dense, compact, finely grained but serious tannins. This is a structured and upright Angélus, the velvet the early palate hiding an iron fist of tannins, which come in dry and grippy at the end. An admirable if powerfully tannic structure, but fine aromatic precision. And the length is considerable; a glorious Angélus in the making. The blend is 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc, reflecting the ratio planted in the vineyard, the two varieties yielding similar volumes in 2025. The alcohol is reported to be about 14%. 96-98/100

A great wine from Angélus this year. Blackcurrant and blue fruit aromas with some dried flowers and soft herbal aspects. Round and generous, wide and filling with amazing definition and creamy texture that few wines have this year. Energy and depth, purity and focus – this is juicy at its core with strawberry and red cherry, mouthwatering. Not an immediate showstopper but this grows in flavour and depth with intensity but no heaviness. Beautiful delineation with a sharp, precise, forward persistence. The energy and balance is flawless. Really an elegant, elongated wine with such nuance of flavour. I love this and think they've done a super job – juicy, this brings a smile to your face. The last vintage with this high a proportion of Cabernet Franc (reflecting plantings and similar berry size was 2014 and 1995). 3.6pH. A yield of 30hl/ha. 50% Cabernet Franc ageing in foudres, 50% in new barrels; Merlot 70% new oak and 30% in one-year-old barrels.

The depths are immediately apparent, clear polished stones, liquorice root, olive pit, espresso, cappuccino, full of the luscious signature of the estate, clutches of sage and freshly cut herbs, savoury with a pumice stone climb through the palate. The Boüard-owned Château Bellevue plots have been included in here as of 2022, ad you can imagine that this vintage really benefited from its limestone soils. As of 2026 vintage Angelus will be made in the new cellar.

(94 - 97+ points) Fruity, vibrant and spicy wine. Full bodied and intense with deep red fruits and red, intense berries and strawberries. Very seductive, clean and fresh, with well integrated tannins and lots of red berries in the crunchy aftertaste. A fine and elegant Angelus, not heavy nor utterly powerful but with a fine high toned, fruity and precise intensity. It should develop nicely.

(95-97+ points) The 2025 Angélus (50% Cabernet Franc, 50% Merlot) is a superb contemporary Grand Vin. Aromatic, vibrant and wonderfully fresh, the 2025 dazzles from start to finish. Blood orange, mint, white pepper, rose petal and chalk weave through layers of vibrant red-toned fruit. Here, too, the Grand Vin impresses with its noble purity and understated grace. Élevage is 50% foudre/50% new oak for the Cabernet Franc, and 60% new oak/40% once-filled barrels for the Merlot. I can't wait to see how this ages. – By Antonio Galloni on April 2026
