(98-100 points) Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2025 Canon shimmies out with seductive notes of fresh blueberries, mulberries, and black raspberries, leading to an underlying perfume of violets, licorice, Sichuan pepper, and mossy tree bark with a touch of lavender. The medium- to full-bodied palate is intense with stacked black, blue, and red fruit layers, supported by a high level of very finely grained tannins and a crisp yet nicely knit line of acidity, finishing very long and minerally. A real “wow” wine!

(98-100 points) The 2025 Canon is a total stunner. Deep and sumptuous in the glass, it offers tons of the vintage's textural intensity along with all the vibrant, saline energy that is such a signature here. Dark-fleshed fruit, mocha, new leather, herbs and dried flowers build gradually in the glass, leading to a huge, dramatic finish laced with hints of blood orange, pomegranate and chalk. Radiant in its lift and purity, this is very accessible, very expressive and beguilingly beautiful aromatically, with the cool composure of the sombre crypt of a grand cathedral. The most floral of Chanel line-up – pure peony with a little mimosa and even a hint of lily of the valley. Patchouli, a suggestion of incense. The fruit is a little redder-tinged than is often the case here (though actually less so when retasted at Canon), but the blueberry notes are much more present in the mouth and they come as an additional delight. This is another hauntingly beautiful wine. Texturally sublime, much like Rauzan-Ségla on the 'other side'. Supremely classy but never blowsy or demonstrative. Ethereal is the word. The culmination to-date of a project constructed over the last decade here. 97-99

Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, delicate edge brightening. Attractive black berry fruit, a hint of cherries, floral nuances, underlaid with violets and nougat. Juicy, elegant, ripe berry fruit, silky tannins, very good length, mineral and persistent, salty finish, sure aging potential.

From there, it is the wealth of fruit, with its intensity, and the oceanic influences that keep you focused. The palate balances lift, energy, concentration, and juiciness perfectly. The finish delivers sweet, ripe black and red fruits, which linger and expand, leaving you with layers of salt-tinged, sweet, ripe fruits and a touch of herbs and mint in the endnotes. Key points of the vintage came not only from the ripeness of the fruit, but, interestingly, from their normal yields, which aided in lowering ABV levels and giving better balance. (96-99 points) A blend of 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc, the 2025 Canon continues this property's brilliant decade-long run of exceptional wines. Unwinding in the glass with a complex bouquet of cherries and raspberries mingled with hints of exotic spices, licorice and petals, it's medium- to full-bodied, suave and concentrated, with a bright spine of acidity and a long, penetrating finish. Harvest stretched from August 28 to September 18.

(96-98 points) Ripe cherries, graphite, crushed flowers, and assorted blue fruits all define the 2025 Château Canon, another great wine from this team, which checks in at 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc and will spend 16 to 18 months in 49% new French oak, with the balance in foudre. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a remarkably polished, flawlessly balanced mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. It hits 14% alcohol with a pH of 3.5 and is very much in the ultra-pure, graceful, classic style this terrific château is known for today. Tasted multiple times with consistent notes. Yields here were 40 hectoliters per hectare with harvest running from the 28th of August (one day earlier than 2022) to the 18th of September.

(96-98 points) A remarkably dark hue, and a seriously classy nose, with lightly desiccated berries, blackberry, dark plum and white peach, with a limestone freshness and suggesting a linear form. Despite the slightly aloof nature on the nose (less so on the final sample tasted, admittedly) the palate charms with sinew and texture combined, with a lithe core of dried black plum and pepper, focused, concentrated, with a beautiful core of limestone-rubbed fruits, textural and fresh, the fruits fading slowly into the finish, backed up by a calcareous sense of energy and drive, leading to a great length. A very classy Canon indeed, with a long grip of fine tannins in the finish, one which is very true to its limestone origins in this vintage. Tasted three times. The blend of Canon is 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc, picked at a yield of 40 hl/ha, starting August 28th with the Merlot, switching to Cabernet Franc on the 13th, finishing up on the 18th. The alcohol is reported to be 14%. 96-98/100

An outstanding Canon. Cherry, cola, liquorice, slate, blackcurrant with a milk chocolate dusting. Smooth and impactful from the start – chewy but juicy, round, alive and filling – mature but there’s no overt sun in the glass. You can feel the Cabernet Franc and the coolness all round. Good structure, maybe more serious than some Canons in the past, but there’s such purity and focus with excellent tannins as well as plenty of blackcurrants, red cherries and hints of raspberry too Complexity and nuance in abundance. A fabulous wine in the making. Authentic.

An impressive Canon, seductive limestone character that showcases what was possible in the vintage. Slate, chalk and pumice stone, all wrapped up in bright and vivid iris flowers, push and pull momentum through the palate where things stop, take a breath, then kick off again with a new layer of nuanced understated toasted spice and cool blue fruits. (94-97+ points) Red berries and velvety fruit. Canon is an impressive and nice, rounded wine with a silky, elegant character. A classic expression for this château that keeps turning out wines in a low keyed, almost aristocratic, laid back style.
