The Drinks Business, May 2026

(97-99 points) (Pomerol; 100% Merlot; a final yield of 12 hl/ha; 14% ABV; just 1,700 bottles – usually more like 5000; tasted with Henri Parent at Le Gay). There's a beauty here to the black cherry fruit, very plump and...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2026

(95-97 points) The wine's trademark scents of violets come through loud and clear in the perfume, along with cherries, cocoa, licorice, espresso, truffles, and plums. On the palate, the wine is concentrated, hedonistic...

Decanter, April 2026

Fruity and fresh but also perfumed, heady and layered. The flavours are super intense with blackcurrants, violets, liquorice, rose petals, plums and vanilla but the texture is smooth and sleek with plenty of juicy appeal...

The Wine Palate, April 2026

(94-96 points) Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 La Violette is a touch closed and oaky to begin, soon unfurling to reveal notes of juicy plums, blueberry preserves, and tar, followed by hints of lavender and licorice...

Vinous, April 2026

(93-95 points) The 2025 La Violette, 100% Merlot, is a dense, powerful wine. Blackberry, gravel, bittersweet chocolate, licorice and espresso are all dialed up. The 2025 possesses off-the-charts fruit richness and tannins...

Château La Violette 2025 is the grand vin from a tiny 1.7-hectare Pomerol estate on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, run today by Henri Parent. It is a pure Merlot, drawn from minuscule production—Antonio Galloni (Vinous) notes “miniscule yields,” with an estimate of “around 1,500 bottles,” while The Drinks Business reports “just 1,700 bottles – usually more like 5000.” Winemaking details cited by reviewers include élevage of about 14 months in new barrels, and alcohol is reported at 14% by The Drinks Business.

In barrel, the 2025 shows the house’s expected mix of floral lift and dark fruit depth. Decanter calls it “fruity and fresh but also perfumed, heady and layered,” with “super intense” flavors spanning “blackcurrants, violets, liquorice, rose petals, plums and vanilla,” carried by a “smooth and sleek” texture and “elegant…purity.” Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider) similarly finds “trademark scents of violets…loud and clear,” plus “cocoa, licorice, espresso, truffles, and plums,” and describes a palate that is “concentrated…lush, and fresh.”

Several critics emphasize the wine’s structure and depth. Galloni (Vinous) calls it “dense” and “powerful,” with “blackberry, gravel, bittersweet chocolate, licorice and espresso…dialed up,” and adds that it has “off-the-charts fruit richness and tannins to match.” James Suckling’s team describes it as “dark and brooding,” yet “polished and integrated,” with “fruit and freshness” keeping it balanced.

Excellent reviews include Jeb Dunnuck’s 98-point assessment, calling it “ultra-classic, pure, seductive, incredibly impressive,” and adding, “It’s the finest wine I’ve tasted from this château in some time.” The Drinks Business is even more effusive with a 97–99 range, praising its “hardly a hint of the oak…Magnificent. And unique.” Leve suggests a drinking window of 2030–2055, underscoring its clear aging intent.
