(97-100 points) A fairly saturated appearance in the glass here. This precedes a quite gorgeous nose, with delicately dried blackcurrant and blackberry, touched with slate and liquorice, but in a vibrant and fresh style, with notes of black violet. The palate is fresh, supple and perfumed, with beautiful confit blackcurrants, liquorice, currant, blood orange and slate, wrapped up in a supple and complex substance, supported by a powdery grip of tightly knit tannins. It finishes long and gripped, with heart-melting energy residing within the tannins which pushes through into the length, lingering forever in an near-eternal limestone-wrapped length. This is just gorgeous, with all the perfume, texture, juice and energy this vintage could give you. Potential perfection here, especially as we have the polish and emboldening of the élevage still to go. This is undeniably the greatest Troplong-Mondot for years, and Aymeric de Gironde and team are responsible. The blend here is 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc, and the yield was 27 hl/ha in this vintage, although the figure varied greatly depending on how wind-exposed the parcels were, the western parcels dried by wind, the eastern and more-sheltered parcels much less so. The alcohol is 13.9% on analysis. 97-100/100
