Showing glorious maturity, this is a Vega Sicilia to luxuriate in. It's a traditional cross-vintage blend - in this case composed of 58 barrels including 2004, 2005 and 2006 vintages, left to develop together then refreshed by some 2007. The aromas are generous, all forest floor, pine needles and brambles. The palate is equally bold and structured with a firm grip of tannin running through, and top notes of freshness. Underneath, there's a savoury layer of truffle, and a very long, elegant, saline finish. The very essence of Vega Sicilia. (Drink between 2019-2030)

A non-vintage blend of three different years and released in 2018, the NV Único Reserva Especial 2018 Release is composed of a blend of 58 barrels from the vintages 2005, 2006 and 2007, younger vintages than the Reserva Especial bottlings from yesteryear. It feels young and not that far away from the current vintage of Único, 2006, which is released at the same time as this. It's mostly Tempranillo with some Cabernet Sauvignon, where the aim is to keep a constant character across the different releases. It has a classical profile, with polished tannins and nice subtlety. Comparing it with the 2006 Único, it doesn't seem to have the same elegance, depth and complexity. - Luis Gutiérrez

Inky ruby. A deeply perfumed bouquet evokes ripe and red and dark berries, pipe tobacco, cola, mocha and incense, and a smoky mineral nuance gains strength as the wine opens up. Stains the palate with sweet blueberry liqueur, cherry cola, candied violet and spicecake flavors that smoothly blend richness and energy. Shows no rough edges and finishes extremely long and sappy, with resonating florality and fine-grained tannins that lend gentle closing grip. This red is medium-bodied but dense, offering old-school elegance, with cherry, tobacco, tea and baking spice flavors that show notes of underbrush and loamy earth. Balanced, with firm tannins and orange peel acidity. A blend of multiple vintages: 2005, 2006 and 2007. Drink now through 2026. 1,450 cases made.
