With no grand crus of its own, the commune of Beaune often gets relegated to an undeserved second tier status, but long time Burgundy fans appreciate the old-school, built-to-last style of a great Beaune wine, not to mention the value compared to the Cote de Nuits! Jadot’s extensive lineup has always been a treasure trove for those willing to do some digging, and today’s 1er cru ‘Theurons’ is a perfect example, as it represents a classic style that's structured and built for the cellar, but for only $59.94. That kind of pricing for a well respected 1er cru is rare in Burgundy these days, especially one with eight years of age. With an “explosive and powerful” style (Vinous), the 2012 Theurons from Jadot is the kind of Burgundy that will age beautifully for 20 years, but it’s already open for business!

Known for their “outstanding wines” that can “stand shoulder to shoulder with more bijou domaines that command much higher prices” (Wine Advocate), Jadot manages to achieve a remarkable level of consistency across their range. The 1er cru Theurons is considered one of the top vineyards of Beaune, but given today’s price tag we’re glad this ranks as ‘only’ a 1er cru! With dark fruit and mineral tinged structure, Theurons is a real overachiever and this is a classic Beaune for old-school Burgundy fans!

91-93 points, Vinous: "Jadot's 2012 Beaune Theurons is quite a bit firmer and more structured than the Greves. Iron, red fruit, minerals, chalk and smoke are some of the many notes that open up in the glass. The 2012 is going to need some time to unwind. It should drink beautifully for many, many years. Here the style is explosive and powerful. Drink 2019 - 2042" - Antonio Galloni

90-92 points, Burghound: "Here the wood treatment is a bit more discreet if not invisible as it better allows the aromas of spice, earth, black currant and menthol nuances to be perceived. There is really lovely detail and plenty of punch to the fleshy medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by a compact tannic spine on the well-balanced and attractively persistent backend. This is worth considering if you have moderate patience as it will need a few years to unwind and harmonize."
